To the Slinger Family,
Very sorry to hear of your husband, father and grandfather's passing. I went to school with Kathy and Bob ( Bob and I were in the same grade) and I remember Mr Slinger well. I remember a smiling man who would listen. I know his passing will leave a hole in your lives and hearts. I pray for your comfort and peace as you navigate this new life without this precious man!

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Slingers passing. He was a gracious man a good principle and rolled with me when I was head girl in 1977. He dealt with differences of opinion in a warm and caring way and he did see the humour in what us head strong teenagers were up to. Lots of stories there. Cheers to a man that got through a career and life with the respect of others intact. A warm smile and a caring person and he put up with me!

Dear Mrs. Slinger, Kathy, Bob, Nancy, and the entire Slinger family: I was greatly saddened to hear of Mr. Slinger's passing. For so many of us who were his students at SFDCI, he was not only our dedicated teacher and principal, but we also knew him as a kind, thoughtful, and thoroughly decent man. He made a positive difference in our lives. And my family and I also knew him as a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. What an incredible legacy, for his family and his community. On behalf of the Hanrahan family - my parents, Patrick and Huguette, my brothers, Patrick, Michael and Matthew, and me - please accept our heartfelt condolences. John J. (J.J.) Hanrahan

Bet and I were saddened to hear of George Slinger's passing. His leadership helped make Smiths Falls a great community in which to begin a teaching career, a town where there was no apparent barrier of silence between the generations, where effort and success earned rewards.

Condolences to the Slinger family. George was a wonderful educator but above all was a caring man who had time for everyone. I was one of George's first "problems" at SFDCI. I couldn't seem to buy into the "program" and other than sports had little interest in anything else at school. George was always supportive and encouraging. I enjoyed student council and in 1969 came up with a goofy idea for a Winter Carnival that we would kick off with a Gordon Lightfoot concert. When I approached George about the $2500 dollar contract George simply inquired can you do it? I said we would not make a lot of money but pledged we would not lose any. He said go for it. And we did and made about $500.00. He was also instrumental in getting me into Community College and a nearly 40 year career in radio and television. George made a difference. He was one of a kind.

sorry to hear of the passing of your father.
He was not only a great man but also helped put Smiths Falls on the map as a place to raise your family and have them attend high school. In the community and within the school board system everyone had only great things to say about him. Hope you and your family can get through this time. all my best

Best Football Fan

First of all may I say that George was the best principal of any staff that I taught with during my career. He was fair, encouraging, but you knew who was in charge. My story, George was the Redmen Football team"s biggest fan. When we played away games, especially when Bobby was playing, Rocky, Art and I had a beer bet for who was the first one to spot George at the game. He never stepped out in the open, but rather you would find him enjoying the game from behind a hedge or large tree. His support of the team meant alot to the coaches and encouraged us to watch him one more time hold up a trophy in front of the student body and shout, "Lanark County". I offer my sincere condolences to the family in your time of need. May the good Lord be mindful of your needs and offer you peace. Tony Gundy
