Obituary of Walter Ernest Goodings
GOODINGS, Walter Ernest - (columnist Lanark Era, retired engineering technician) Age 96 at Great War Memorial Hospital in Perth, January 27. Predeceased by his wife Dorothy Corrine Deachman. A resident of Lanark, ON, he was born January 6, 1913, in Toronto, the son of the late Walter Goodings and Ann Forrester. Survived by daughters Ann Marie Alexander (Chuck) of Orillia; and Margaret Allooloo of Iqaluit, NU; son David Goodings (Margo) of Almonte, ON; brother Lloyd Goodings (June) of Vancouver, BC and sister, Gertrude Moses of Markham, ON. Sadly missed by long time companion Catherine Vallillee, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by his son Walter David Goodings, brother Robert Goodings, sister Irene Porter and great grandson Graham Ronald Alexander. Walter was a resident of Lanark for the last 10 years, he had lived in Flower station, Ottawa, Sudbury and Cobden throughout his lifetime. He worked in road construction and bridge building most of his life as a surveyor, draftsman and contract estimator. Before retiring he was an engineer technician with Alex Graham Consulting Engineers in Ottawa. Walter was a volunteer with the Lanark and District Museum, a columnist with the Lanark Era (where he compiled vignettes from other eras) and a he was a member of the Perth Writers Club. At his request there is to be no funeral. A celebration of his life is planned for a future date. In remembrance contributions to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
