Hey John,
A couple of things I forgot to mention to you when we last met on the lane. Being around Christmas time, I thought about our relationship over the last decade. You were the CEO and CFO of Beaver Dam Lane maintenance and I was your main guy for pot- hole filling and branch trimming on the lane. And every Christmas you’d say, "Great job - you’ll get a 50% increase in salary over your base pay.” And we’d have our giggle, but I should’ve told you that you were the best boss I ever worked for. But you’d also get out there as long as you could, with your old lawn mower and trim the road edges and make our lane attractive and welcoming for all who entered.
I should have also mentioned that I really appreciated the way you shared your vast collection of old war movies. I forget how Marg described them, but I loved them – and the discussion afterwards. And there was never an overdue charge.
Our dog, Sheena loved everybody on the lane, but I gotta tell you, you were her favorite. She’d pull so hard to get to you and almost wag herself out of her fur. And, the adoring looks she’d give you !
John, I won’t make your farewell event but I will think of you every time I walk the lane. I’ll miss you dear, old friend.

I will miss Mr.Barry or as I refer to him "Big John". I loved his quirkiness, his integrity, his loyalty and commitment to things that mattered... I am so very saddened that my dear friend has lost both her parents in the past three years but I know she is blessed to have had such committed, guiding and patient parents who were amazing role models and raised a wonderful daughter who has inherited many of her parents values and characteristics... (she may deny this). Both her parents loved their daughter and each other dearly and deeply. We should find comfort in knowing they are reunited in spirit and soul. Rest peacefully John Barrie. My Deepest Sympathy Janet&Family, Jean and Jim. John will certainly be missed by many, I for one will miss him so very much, his many stories he would tell me, a different one each week. He was so very proud of you Janet and the grandchildren. He loved his family, going to dinner each Friday with his sister Jean. Planning events well ahead to make sure everyone was prepared and organized for the date. He is now with the love of his life Margaret, he missed her so much. R.I.P. John.

Our deepest sympathy, to Janet and her entire family. We have had the pleasure of being John's next door neighbour for 9 years, on Beaver Dam Lane. We watched John devotedly care for his wife Margaret, whom passed away 3 years ago. John always had a smile on his face and was a delightful storyteller. He was always gracious and kind to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing this wonderful man. Beaver Dam Lane will never be the same without him!
We will miss all his kindness and his giggle.

John brought a cheery smile and a gentlemanly greeting every time we would meet on Beaver Dam Lane. Watching the love between Marg and John was inspirational. It tells you a lot about a person. His pride and workmanship showed with the maintenance he did on the road. He was always thorough, considerate, reliable and kind. Home won't be the same without him. Our sympathy to the family for your loss. Monika and I were neighbours of John's on Beaver Dam Lane, and we always enjoyed our conversations when we met on the road or stopped by for a visit. John was a true gentleman, his easygoing demeanor and wonderful storytelling will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

It is with sadness in my heart that I read of the passing of John Barrie. Growing up across the street at 105 Drummond St., E. was a great time for the Armstrong and Barrie kids. Fond memories of John and his happy walk I send prayers to his Sister Jean and brother Jim also his daughter and her family. Filled with lots of great memories in our wonderful home town of Perth. It truly was the place to be.

Janet, Mike & I send our deepest condolences to you and your family at this saddest of times. As you know, my friendship with Marg & John goes back a LONG Time! Right back to when Marg came to teach at K. Rowe all those years ago. So many good times!!
The memories that come immediately to mind are the ones of our annual Christmas party at our home here in Whitby. The carol singing, camaraderie, and all that goes with an annual gathering of old friends.
I especially remember the one that took place the 1st Christmas after Marg had gone through her very difficult treatments, and was not at all well. As we were all downstairs singing our Christmas carols, there was a call from the stairs: "Room for 2 more?". And there they were! Marg, and John, who had driven here all the way from Ottey Lake! What a delight!!! And what a gift to all of us!
Janet, I could go on and on about all the happy memories, but it would block up the internet!
So may I just say: Heartfelt condolences to you and yours, and sincerest tributes to your Dad. A Gentleman, and a Gentle Man.

Mr. Barrie a great teacher

Mr. Barrie was one of my teachers at Courtice Secondary School.</p>
<p>
He was a very kind, patient man and a great teacher.</p>
<p>
I had him for grade 10 typing.</p>
<p>
I was the only boy in the class and thought that I would get favoured attention because of it but</p>
<p>
he was a teacher of justice and fairness and didn't treat me any more special than all of the girls.</p>
<p>
I always admired that.</p>
<p>
It so sad that such of a wonderful man is no longer with us.</p>
<p>
he will be missed</p>

Janet, Mike & I send our deepest condolences to you and your family at this saddest of times. As you know, my friendship with Marg & John goes back a LONG Time! Right back to when Marg came to teach at K. Rowe all those years ago. So many good times!! The memories that come immediately to mind are the ones of our annual Christmas party at our home here in Whitby.
