I had the privilege of meeting Glad in 2003 when I retired at Christie Lake from Toronto. I joined the lady's section at The Link's O"Tay Gold Club in May of that year. I golfed with Glad a few times. At our first fall luncheon in the fall I sat beside her and we became friends. Somehow we made a connection with the Board Of Trade. Mel and my dad knew each other from golf. My dad had belonged to the same foursome at The Board Of trade for many many years playing with the same foursome every Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning. My dad had a stroke in the early 80's and Mel replaced him in his old foursome. .My dad was born and raised outside of Perth so Glad thought this a wonderful coincidence that we should meet and become friends. She loved to talk with me about " the good old days at The Board Of Trade"before everything changed.
At that first luncheon someone asked her if she was going to tell a joke? Up she got and proceeded to tell not one but three very funny jokes. We became kindred spirits that day.
I also had the privilege of playing Bridge with her a few times. What a card shark.
I will miss my dear little friend. She was a very special lady.
Sincerely, Margie Brady
Plan to be at the service Wednesday and meet some of Glad's family
My mother, Judy Burns, had many wonderful memories of Glad being a good friend when she shared living at the Carolina Retirement Home.
There were many parties, many centered around the bridge table and a number of family gatherings to celebrate birthdays.
All were happy events and Glad's cheery and lively self will always be remembered.
We will greatly miss Glad and were so disappointed for her that she did not live to her June 27th - 100th birthday, which she was so insistent that we come to her party.
Our sympathies to all the family.
I had the priviledge of knowing Gladys, a fellow 'Brit' albeit for a short time, after joining the Perth bridge club.Glad always had a cheery word and the funniest jokes which she would share over a glass of wine and a pub lunch. She'll be sadly missed.
