So sad to hear of my grandmothers passing. Although I’ve been traveling and living far away for the last couple of years I was lucky enough to be home in January and had a lovely visit with her.
With my moms recent passing I found much comfort in hearing everyone share fond memories with her, I wanted to share one of my favourite memories with my grandma. Although I can’t be at the funeral I hope that this brings a little happiness to my family back home.
Growing up in Perth we always gathered at grandma at grandpas for all the big holidays. With Easter just around the corner it brings a smile to my face thinking of all those years of Easter egg hunts that grandma would arrange. There were 13 grandkids and every year we each had our own special clues that lead to a sweet surprise. Some years we even had to take the four wheelers out as she hid clues and treats all over the property, the older cousins helped the younger ones and a great time was always had by all. I miss those simpler times and I will always hold those memories dear. Thinking of all of you, wish I could be there ❤️

To Uncle Arthur, and all of my cousins please accept condolences for your loss from me, Kathryn, Olivia and Simon. Aunt Helen was always very welcoming to me during the summer holidays when I practically lived at your place on the farm when we were kids. I can still remember those great cheese and tuna buns that Aunt Helen would make after hours of swimming and playing in the barn with Tommy and Wilson. From the choir at St Paul’s church to her local theater performances to even just making meals, Aunt Helen always had great stage presence. I will be in the UK so will not be able to make the service, but we will be thinking of you all at this time of sadness, and hoping that you can also remember the great happiness that Aunt Helen brought to us all, including me.

I have very fond memories growing up of my Grandpa and Grandma bringing me to visit "Aunty Helen and Uncle Art's" farm. Aunty Helen was a dear sister to my Grandma, Edna. I recall visiting the farm for large "Boxing Day" gatherings at Christmas and for "Dodds" family reunions in the summers. And then there were one off visits where my grandparents would bring my sister and I to the farm for the day. Aunty Helen was always very warm, kind and welcoming when we came to the farm. I will always remember how bright, fun and kind she was. My Grandma loved her so much!!! I was sorry to hear of her passing and am praying for Uncle Art and all the members of the Bowes' family as you mourn this incredible loss for your family.

Some of the best childhood memories I hold in my heart include Aunt Helen and Uncle Art. Those Dodds family picnics hosted on their farm were filled with sunshine, laughter and amazing food. Any time we gathered as a family was an opportunity to love, laugh and learn a little more about our wonderful heritage. I'm not sure we knew just how extraordinary those times together really were until we started having families and children of our own. Grandpa and Grandma Dodds, my father Jim and his four incredible sisters, Doris , Edna, Helen and Millie taught us all so much about the importance of family and faith...My heart goes out to Uncle Art, Janet, Alfred, Doug, Tom and Wilson and all of their families at this time...xoxo

Dearest Bowes and Pentney Families:
It was indeed a very sad Saturday, both for the family and Helen’s dear friends; all of who will miss her beauty, many talents and the all around great woman she was. She was a community member; church supporter; and more importantly, wife, mum and grandparent extra ordinaire. Helen was also the mother to so many more than those she gave birth to; we feel so lucky to have shared our times together over the past 38 years, and I am sure we are just among hundreds of others.
You may think you and we lost our ‘Monarch’ of the family…but we haven’t…our memories of dear Helen and her spirit will live forever.
There aren’t any great words I’ve ever found upon the passing of a loved one. Bill and I and family send our deepest condolences to everyone for your loss.
With the combination of her health and her faith…I do believe Helen in a better place. We may have lost one of the families’ brightest sparks…but you haven’t lost Helen…she will be forever in your thoughts and memories; every time you visit Tayview Farm or Auntie Margaret’s house; she will be with you; every time you laugh with joy with all of her amazing legacies …she not only raised all her kids marvellously; she loved their partners with distinction; and, they in turn, paid her back with a large group of beautiful and talented grandchildren and great grandchildren, she will be with you; every time you gather and share a glass of milk, juice or wine...she will be with you…Helen and her memories will be with us all forever!
Thank you, Helen, for all your love, kindness, hospitality and friendship for near 40 years…we promise…we will remember you!
Please give our Art all the hugs and kisses on the planet, because I know only he can lead Helen’s Legacy, and the rest of us, beyond this sad time.
Loads of love to all,
Tes, Bill, Billy and Angela xoxo

Dear Uncle Art, and my cousins Janet, Alfred, Doug, Tom, and Wilson:
Many memories of Aunt Helen have come to me this week, especially the visit Lynn and I had with her when I was "home” to Ontario last summer. Calling her the ‘spark’ of family gatherings describes her perfectly! The Dodds family picnics at the Bowes farm, skits and costumes, swimming at the dam, the poem she wrote for my mother’s (her sister Doris) 90th birthday, always happy to see everyone who stopped in, that big welcoming smile, and so very proud of all her children and grandchildren and now great-grandchildren. I admired her "style” and her involvement with the community around her and her efforts (with Uncle Art) to appreciate and preserve the history of their farm.
As I write this, you will all be gathered to celebrate her life at St. Paul’s United Church – the church where she and Uncle Art were married (I was her flower girl!). Afterwards, there will be a long funeral procession out the Scotch Line, past the house where she grew up, past the road leading back to the farm where she raised her family, past "Aunt Margaret’s house” where she and Uncle Art have spent their later years, and on up to the Upper Scotch Line Cemetery where her parents also rest.
I so wish that I could be with you today but Mike and his children are with us for spring break and we haven’t seen them since September - Aunt Helen would understand.....
Please know that you are in my thoughts today and in the coming days. Much love to all of you and your families.

Helen was a first cousin on my father's side. We made a trip to Canada in the early 70's and visited her and her family and have fond memories of that trip. I was so sorry to hear of her passing. Altonatives in Cornwall
Nineteen years ago our singing group The Altonatives travelled to Cornwall to follow in the steps of Poldark. Helen was part of our group. We stayed at The ( not so ) Grand Hotel in Newquay , rented 2 cars & travelled around the county. Cornwall has never been the same. We had a ball. Many of the group are no longer with us. But the wonderful memories of that time & the great friends who travelled together will always be fresh in our memories. Helen I think of you so often , you were a true &
funloving friend
