Frank and I became good friends when we were about 9 or so. He briefly came to Esher Cof E Primary School and we got on so well that we remained friends after he left.
I think what I really enjoyed about Frank was the sense of talking about real things. The fact we would walk together by the Thames and discuss "The Meaning Of Life" and minor topics like that. We were both very earnest. And very argumentative. That was also one of Frank's great attributes! He loved an argument. So did I.
I remember his delight when he fell in love with Flora and the joy he felt. And then the extraordinary reaction of his parents which ended up with him leaving England for Canada.
Frank was a sincere and right-thinking man. I have fond memories of him. Terry Jones

I heard about the sad news of the passing away of Frank only a few months ago from Flora and although I wanted to write something here it has taken me time to think it out.
I first came into contact with Frank about 10 years ago when Frank was working as a consultant at The Auditor General's Office in Lilongwe, Malawi. At the time I was setting up a long term cooperation project between The Swedish National Audit Office and The AGO of Malawi and was visiting Lilongwe on a short term mission (one of several). I found Frank to be an invaluable source of professional information and advice and I greatly appreciated his openess and cooperation. Frank was such a conscientious worker, full of ideas and imagination and I recall having stimulating discussions with him on matters of mutual interest connected with our upcoming project. I subsequently met Frank again on a later mission to Lilongwe and also had the pleasure of meeting his dear wife Flora who accompanied him then. I recall Frank being under some pressure at the time when I attended a meeting as an observer at The Ministry of Finance and Frank was presenting one of his reports to a committee composed of The Auditor General and representatives from The Ministry of Finance and The Justice Ministry. Frank was being challenged on his findings and recommendations, in my opinion rather unfairly, but Frank kept his cool and presented well thought out reasoning and defence of his report. A very professional attitude I thought.
The last time I met Frank was several years later when I was the resident long term advisor at another development cooperation project, this time at The National Audit Office of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam. I had requested that Frank should come to Dar es Salaam to share his experiences with the office on issues relating to Performance Auditing. This time Frank was accompanied by Flora again and we had the pleasure of having them both as house guests at our temporary home there. I recall while they were with me and my wife in dar es Salaam they told us something of their life on their farm in Canada and it sounded a wonderful place to be.
So it came as a shock for me to get the news of Frank's untimely passing away from Flora. I would just like to conclude by saying that I have just good memories of Frank and I will always remember him as a good colleague and friend.

I offer my condolences to the family on the loss of Frank Knight. Frank was my supervisor at the Bureau of Management Consulting during two co-op work terms in 1969. As a first year student from Waterloo, I really appreciated that Frank treated me like one of the other consultants. I still talk about this experience as the best job I ever had, in large part because of the opportunities I had and the hospitality shown to me by Frank and Flora. Frank even took me to Val Cartier - my first business trip - on a harrowing flight on a Vickers Viscount. Frank had a story about the failure of Rolls Royce engines used on these planes. His sense of humour, his mentorship and his respect of my learning needs have stayed with me, and were models for me as I took on a career in which I supported the learning of federal government epidemiologists. Why do I remember this so clearly after 40 years, when I could not name another person working there? I suspect that Frank must have had a similar impact on many others over his career.

Frank Knight has been one my best friends and an excellent guide. During his assignment in Office of the Auditor General of Pakistan (2003-04), I had the honor of being associated with him in preparation of Audit Guidelines for the Government. During some workshops, I took him around a major part of Pakistan, including Quetta (my hometown), which he liked very much, Peshawar and Azad Kashmir. We used to have frequent exchange of emails usually on lighter side of life, i.e. man's interaction with nature (to which he had dedicated most of his life). I have learnt a lot from him and will miss him forever wish his wonderful wife Flora (which he always adored a lot) and his most favorite children Bruce and Tahrita, whom he loved very much!

We were so shocked to hear of Frank's untimely passing. He was a dear friend of some 40 years, a useful man who touched many lives positively in England, Canada, Malawi, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Australia and beyond. He will be sorely missed, and by none more so than his wife, Flora, and children Bruce and Tahrita, to whom our hearts go out, and who are in our prayers.

Frank's Email
Following is an extract of Email Frank sent me on October 12, 2010:
"I should cut back on the number of cattle (17 including calves) – at this time of the year, they break through the fencing and last week I had to mend some of the places where they went through to look for apples and enjoy the rich hay fields!
Yes, there are always many links in the web of our relationships. Sometimes one wonders if they are more than coincidences but because there are so many thousands of interactions, occasionally some of them are quite surprising. I went to buy a brush for cleaning my wood stove chimney and met a Welshman there – it turned out he had been a consultant at the OAG in Canada and I had not seen him for about 23 years – he lives in my area but still a surprising encounter!"
