driving lesson
Many , many years ago, when I was a young lad , I was itching to learn how to drive a car . My Dad had a heart condition so I guess you can all figure out why he didn't want to take ME out on the roads. Anyway, Uncle Bill could feel my pain so he offered to be the teacher . The first time I jumped behind the wheel I was ready to ROCK .
We decided to take a rip around the back streets of Lanark . Uncle Bill was a great teacher and thought I was doing so well he thought I could tackle the MAIN STREET of Lanark. On that particular Saturday there was something going on in town and the main street was packed with parked cars on both sides of the street. Even the driving lanes were full of traffic. There were a few close calls that day . On one occasion I had to squeeze between two cars and Uncle Bill had his hand about one inch from the steering wheel ready to grab. We had a great laugh over that . Looking back on that day , learning to drive a car , wasn't what was memorable . What I have never forgotten was the kind , considerate , and comical nature of my Uncle Bill . That day with him has stuck with me for all these years as special days should .
