Obituary of Raymond Joseph Emmett Gray
GRAY, JOSEPH EMMETT RAYMOND
January 20, 1932 - June 12, 2012
With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our much loved father and grandpa, Raymond Gray, aged 80, at home in Smiths Falls. Raymond was born in Chapeau, Quebec, and grew up there and in Renfrew, Ontario. He gained two bachelors and a masters degree in social work and did graduate work in Ottawa, Buffalo and New York City. He raised his family in Toronto and, seeking a better life for them, Pembroke. After becoming a widower, he moved to Smiths Falls to be closer to his grandchildren. Within a year, more people in the town knew him than knew his daughter, a resident for twelve years. Predeceased by wife Elisabeth (nee van den Bosch), he leaves behind son Mark (Rita Faelis), daughters Carla (Bryan Bell) and Nancy (Alex Goralczyk), and grandchildren Madeleine, Sophie, Eric, Taylor, Ryan and Luke. Son of the late Emmett and Loretta Gray (Merchant) and brother of Eunice, Irma, the late Loretta, Joan, Emmett and Geraldine. Beloved friend and confidant to many. All are welcome to a memorial service at Blair & Son Funeral Home, 112 Beckwith Street North, Smiths Falls, on Friday July 6, 2012 at 1 pm. Reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cancer Society would be appreciated. A private interment to follow at a later date at St. Columba's Cemetery in Pembroke. Raymond, though retired, never really stopped being a social worker. Aided by his professional training and skills and motivated by his religion and humanity, he was happiest when helping others. His warmth, generosity, compassion and humour enriched several communities and many lives. He will live forever in our hearts.
