Passed away unexpectedly at his home at Van Horne Manor, Smiths Falls on Sunday, May 20, 2012, Rev. Robert Alexander Thompson in his 96th year. Bob was predeceased by his infant daughter Sheila Ann Thompson (1952), his son Melvon Robert Thompson (2012), his son-in-law Gerald Barr (1995), and his infant great-grandson Massey Barr Jackson (2011). Beloved husband and best friend for more than 70 years of Grace (Coleman). Loving and devoted father of Sandy Barr (Rory MacKay), Nancy (Ron) Ferguson, Peggy (Bill) Dopson, and Wendy (Tim) van der Horn. Cherished grandfather of Tina Thompson (Paul), Cory (Kim) Barr, Melissa (Ian) Barr Jackson, Rob (Allison) Ferguson, Ron (Sara) Ferguson, Steve (Tara Lee) Ferguson, William (Amy) Ferguson, David Dopson, Tom (Jen) Dopson and Tieman van der Horn. Bob’s family also included his very special 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren as well as his many extended family and friends. Bob served as a Lieutenant in the Governor-General’s Foot Guards in WWII in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe. During his service, Bob was a student and graduated from Sandhurst Military College in Cambridge. At the conclusion of the war, Bob continued with many occupations and areas of interest, but he was most passionate about his call to ministry when he was ordained as a Baptist Minister in 1975. As a pastor he served at many Baptist Churches in the Lanark, Beckwith, Middleville, Picton communities and then at the Harmony Community Church in Winchester. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service in the Chapel at 3 o’clock. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon Bible Society.
