My sincere condolences. When I think of your Mother I always smile. I think of the Onaping days and festivals, lessons at your house and how supportive she was of our efforts. She drove into town one day to hear me play the clarinet at the festival. That was definitely not my strong point but your Mom came to hear me. My performance confirmed I should stay with singing however your Mother smiled and thanked me for the entertainment as did the adjudicator and Bette Leake. We shared a chuckle. May she rest in peace and hear wonderful music.

Sorry to hear of Bab's passing. We were away in Alberta for a family wedding, so I was unable to attend. We miss both Van and Babs at St. Paul's. I bumped in to her at Coutts Coffee a year or two ago when she was visiting with a group from her residence in Ottawa - it was nice to see her again.

My sympathy to Babs' family. I got to know Babs and Van when they attended and contribuyed to the life of St. Paul's United Church in Perth. I remember Babs' concern for those in need. When she'd see us bringing food to the church she expresed that we did noy need to eat again and instead share the value of the food with others in need. May your cherished memories console you as you celebrate Babs' vibrant life.

Dear Paul, Lisette, Carla, Dick and family,
I was in shock en very sad to read that my dearest tante Bep has passed away already more than 3 year's ago.
I will let you know that I loved her só much!
She was só very special to me! I shared at least her love for animals in need. But she had so many other gifts also!
I will always remember my Christmas vacation december 1976, the other times she and oom Hein came to Holland, it was allways so close and the vacation she, oom Hein and I spent together at Otterlo. I was allready afraid then I would see them for the last time.
Oom Hein passed away at the end of 2009 I suppose? He was a wonderfull person too!
I wil miss them both for the rest of my life, I know they loved me too in a very special way and I will cherish them in my hart forever.
They have reached a wonderful age and I hope so they did'nt suffer?
I think death is so cruel and tear's everything ( beautifull) apart.
You all must miss them very much and I hope you can cope with it meanwhile and in the future. Most by remembering all the good things you shared together.
I will carry them in my hart forever, my dearest tante Bep and my dearest oom Hein!
My dear ones, a big hug for you all!
With much, much love, your cousin Brigitte Bartels

Today was her birthday, I light a candle in my living and remember her and will remember her past away at 27 may. So I did on the 17- tieth of march when it was the birthday of my uncle Hein I believe?
Sometimes it is like I can feel them....just like I can feel the presence of my dear parents sometimes. You will never forget them, they will stay in your live for ever!
I think of you all also! With much love Brigitte
P.S. I apologise for my bad English, I'am not used to write it every day-:)

Our Friend Babs
We have had the pleasure of taking Babs to church once a month and visiting with her. We had memories in common of the village(Scheveningen) in Holland, were Babs lived with an aunt when she was a young girl. Joe and I were both born in Scheveningen. We were able to speak Dutch with Babs, which she enjoyed. Friday May 24th we visited Babs, knowing that her birthday was the next day. We brought her a small plant, which she liked very much. Babs was very surprised that we knew she was going to have her birthday the next day,how did you know about my birthday she asked.
We had a lovely visit, she talked about her children and grandchildren, about the lovely flowers her granddaughter send regularly. We have been very fortunate to have met Babs. She was a great lady.
God be with you Babs you deserve the rest.
Love Joe and Nell

Music
What a sport the van Raadshooven family was to have us all trail into your home and enjoy our singing lessons with Better Leake. It was extra special when I was able to bother Dick with his pet hamster while waiting for my lesson. Your Mother was always very supportive of our efforts and travelled into Sudbury to hear us perform at the music festivals even when the day did not involve her own children. Carla and Lisette's sewing inspired me to take an interest in my Mother's little Singer sewing machine which I cherish and still use. (a bright yellow cape comes to mind) It is difficult to see our parents' generation pass. May your mother rest in peace.

Coffee with Babs
We have so enjoyed having Babs and Van as members of Barrhaven United Church. Sitting with Babs in Church was always a special experience -- Babs would never hold back her opinion about the choice of hymns or the sermon topic -- She'd lean over and quite loudly let us know, for several pews around, that she had "NEVER heard of THAT one!"
I started pastoral visits to Babs once a week or so, just after Van passed away. She was so lonely for Van and several of us would pop in to keep her company. During our visits she shared many stories of her life during the war, her work with UNICEF and the UCW, her love of animals, flowers, art and her love of her family.
My last visit was just this past Thursday -- some visits over the past year have been more or less confused and wandering, but Babs was as perky as could be on Thursday! I brought in little tiny cupcakes to celebrate her 96th birthday and we had a coffee party (no tea party for Babs!) -- she popped one after another of those little cupcakes into her mouth and we had such a grand visit. Lisette had brought Patchy in for a visit earlier that month and Natasha's flowers, freshly arrived, brightened up the room -- both great topics over coffee with lots of cream and sugar and sweets.
Babs was one very special, dignified and feisty lady -- she kept us all on our toes and we are truly blessed to have shared in her life and friendship. Go in peace, Babs -- may God bless you, Van and your family. With love, Melanie
