Dear Christine, I am so sorry for your loss. You have lost partner who was an exceptional man who touched many people. I really only knew Bob through you, Christine and a couple of encounters. He was always so warm and genuine. I loved Bob's great enthusiasm for producing maple syrup in the spring, and his generosity in sharing the bounty from his trees. My mother , from England delighted an the afternoon spent watching Bob "sugaring off". A very fond memory.
With great sympathy, Penny

Doug (and family), I am so sorry for your tremendous loss but grateful that your dad lived so long and well after his diagnosis and then slipped away peacefully once everyone had gathered. Perhaps his greatest legacy is his children and their families. Much to be proud of.
I look forward to hearing details of the service in the spring.
God bless, Colleen

Dear Christine, Doug, Susan, John and Dave - Jasmine and I were so sad to hear of Bob's passing. We were lucky to see him just before Christmas when we visited with my mom (Ann Melville) and we were able to spend a short time with him. He was still engaged and interested and interesting although he was struggling. I am so glad that he had such a dignified ending. You are such a wonderful and loving family to have provided that for him.
Warm hugs and best regards,
Diane and Jasmine

I am tremendously saddened to read of Bob's death. To all of you, my condolences. Especially to Doug, Sue, David and John I send warm hugs. As you know, I was friends with Joyce and Bob from high school days, through our marriages and child-raising. I remember all your births and the deep love with which each of you was greeted, and watched you all grow up. Your dad and mum helped me when I landed in difficulties. I am forever grateful for their friendship and have never forgotten their generosity. With Bob's departure, a chapter closes. I feel sure you continue to carry the beautiful qualities you inherited out into the world. I am always open to sharing memories of that rich history with you if you wish. With love, and "bon courage," Beth

It was with a heavy heart that we learned of Bob's passing. This was a man that everyone who knew him was proud to say he had been in their lives. Watching my cousin mature and accomplish his many goals was a highlight in all our lives. I talked about his growth and his accomplishments to many of the people in my life.
Bob, you will be missed by so many friends and family. You were a great man, the product of great parents. No wonder you turned out like you did.
I saddens my heart to lose you, but I know we will see each other one day.
Rest In Peace,
Janet & Tom

Laura and Don MacLean posted a condolence
My mother Laura MacLean asked today if we could check into Bob Melville and his family so that she could update her family history book. In searching around to help her, I found the notice of the passing of Bob.
My mother and I, and our family, would like to pass on our condolences to the family of Bob.
We have very nice memories of long ago, in particular during the Expo years in Montréal when we shared fun times with Joyce and Bob at the Expo celebrations of 1967.
My mother is doing remarkably well, living in her condo in Toronto and her two sons Ken (Toronto) and Don (Beloeil, QC) are doing well. We wish the best to the surviving members of Bob's and Joyce's family. A warm hug from us to Christine. Clearly they lived a life well lived and will be missed by their families.
Sincerely,
Laura MacLean, Don MacLean (and wife Marie-Andrée Ostiguy) and Ken MacLean

Robert Melville lit a candle

Almost
First, my condolences on the loss of a man I never met. But I came close, twice.
Back around 1967-68-69 I was a forester for a paper company in northern New Brunswick. Due to the sickness of another forester I was sent to Newcastle New Brunswick to work for a few days . It was in November, dark and dreary. I made reservations in the Wandlyn Motel and arrived late at night. My room was taken!! By a Robert Melville. The night clerk showed me his business card. Sure enough . I believe he was selling bearings at the time.
Fast foward a few years. I ended up owning a building supply company in Campbellton NB. New Brunswick Power built a thermal generating unit in Belledune. Guess who the general contractor was? Flakt Canada. You know who the President was.
Missed again but I did very well with the sub contractors.
Well enough to buy a nice car. Shopped around and bought one from Carling Motors in Ottawa. Went up by train with cheque in hand. When Iarrived the office was aghast. Not five minutes before I arrived a Robert Melville had left with a car.
Shortly straightened out.
Mine was still there. I'm sorry I came so close. I will be 79 on March 7. Retired to Nova Scotia now but made maple syrup, and honey bess. Had a sailboat.
Probably not related. Our daughter did a lot of research but came up with nothing on that side. Story is a Melville came over as an orphan from Ayr, Scotland. Once again my sympathies. Robert Melville
