The last time I saw Jack and Cathy was in the summer of 2008 when I attended the outdoor mass at the Catholic cemetery outside Perth - it was a memorial for all the people buried there. Afterwards, they dropped in to the home of my parents, Charles and Jean (Mitchell) Thompson. Jack was in fine form and looking forward to the next road trip they had planned. Jack was my mother's cousin. He and Cathy were so important to her feeling of belonging in the community and surroundings which were home to her own parents. I had the opportunity to talk to Jack on occasion about my job as an agricultural journalist (of sorts). I also learned through other sources of the high regard in which he was held by so many in the Ontario dairy industry. Our sincere condolences to all in the Mitchell family. Catherine, Kevin, Brian, David and Karen. Our thoughts are with you during this most difficult time. We are so sorry for your loss, but know you have many great memories of Jack and hope they bring you comfort. Unfortuntely George and I have both been ill with Norwalk over the last few days and didn't want to risk exposing you all to it by attending the services, if we were able to make it up with the symptoms.
