Just a short note to send our deepest sympathies and condolences to you and your families. Ivan was an awesome individual who we got to meet in our square dance days. We had many laughs and really enjoyed Ivan and Phyllis's friendship during those times and also Ivan was in Carolina Court, the same time Mom was. Cherish the memories and he and Phyllis will live in our hearts forever. Wayne & Kathie Ashby

As a young boy growing up in the city, especially a boy of Shirley, Uncle Ivan was revered. To me in those early years he was stoic, a man of few words...almost regal in that mysterious world we would visit called McDonald's Corners. In the many years since, growing into adulthood myself, having a family and having the pleasure of bending his ear I grew so fond of the great stories, his way of recalling events from a much simpler time and that wonderful, dry sense of humour. It was such a contrast to my childhood recollection. Such a caring, thoughtful and dignified man...I feel so lucky to have been able to experience that with Ivan. Please accept our heartfelt thoughts and prayers from the Cherkewich family. I know Grandpa will enjoy his day off at the general store wherever they are meeting now that Ivan has arrived to mind the store. Love you all....be well.

I have so many memories of Ivan and Phyllis...playing Euchre on a cruise...he could trump me pretty often. It got to the point I told him I finally realized how they came up with the name "Ivan the Terrible". For the past few years we have met at Keenagers and I always got a hug...I'll miss that. Needless to say, my sympathies are with you all...God Bless...

My deepest sympathy to Ivan and Phyllis' family and loved ones. It has been such a privilege to know this warm and gracious, faithful and generous couple. They taught me many card games that three could play; rescued me when something went wrong at the manse; extended friendship and inspired me by their lives and their love for each other, their family, their community, the church, and our Lord. They through their hearts into everything they did, into helping everyone they could. I marvelled at the extent of inventory they carried in their store. As someone said, "if Ivan's store doesn't have it, either it doesn't exist, or you don't really need it."
Blessings and love to each of you. May the boundless memories you have bring warmth, comfort and strength, especially on the days when you miss Ivan [and Phyllis] the most deeply. [Rev.] Linda J. Bell

To all the Family of Ivan McLellan
My condolences to all of you! Ivan was a valued friend (and cousin) and for many years struggled through the mass mailing of Tax Notices that I lugged in to the Post Office at the McLellan Store in McDonalds Corners.
I remember well when we erected the Fire Hall in McDonalds Corners and the way Ivan and other respected residents rose in That Ivan was a cousin to my late mother, simply deepens our loss of him . As its typical family members move and we become almost unknown too each other, except at times like this.
On occasion when I was "back eat" I would run into Ivan, and it was as tho no time had passed at all. It will be like that in the resurrection (Acts 24:15)

My sincere condolences to the McLellan family.
As a new comer to McDonalds Corners in 2002 I remember talking with Phyllis and Ivan about the history of our hamlet, and how it was a beehive of activity. Ivan shared stories of how the Fire Dept. was developed and the many stories that went along with that. He also shared the history of the house I had purchased and the families that had lived there in the past. A real "gentle man".

So sorry to hear that Ivan has passed. He was a pillar in the area. "They don't build them like that anymore" might be the way to sum up who he was, what he and Phyllis meant to the community. We cannot get up for the wake, but know that we are thinking of you. Dave, Cosette, Elyse and Garrett.

Ivan was one of the first people we met when we bought property in the McDonalds Corners' area back in 1976. A story I like to tell is how Ivan loaned me his pipe wrench when he didn't have one in stock, and I remember thinking we'd come to the right area.
Ivan, Phyllis and family were part of the heart of the community. Ivan will be missed, but will live on in the memories of all who knew him.
