Sincere condolences to Rita’s family. Our family has made so many happy memories at the lake over the years, and Rita was always such a welcoming and gracious hostess. I have many snapshots in my mind, featuring Rita- in the garden, at the henhouse, feeding the cats, (early in the morning), tending to delicious meals in her kitchen... but the best part of our visits were her warm and unhurried chats- from behind her desk, in earlier years, or from her rocker, with a book on her knee, more recently. So thankful for all her kindnesses over the years.

To the Duncan Family:
It is always grievous to learn of the passing of a friend, but the more so when that friend has been such a vital part of the community. Last time we met, we were scraping down the porch of the new home for Tom and Melanie and it has been through these latter two that I have been kept aware of the "Duncan" family - some of those grandchildren are my own nieces and nephews!!!
I remember the time when returning home with the girls from the "sewing Club" under Rita's capable direction, that the girls with e and myself got boxed in by the Fish and Wildlife Officer as we exited from the "head of the Lake" - we to escape the incessant bright lights following us, the Wildlife officer to apprehend illegal fishermen. Imagine the red faces when they realized they had apprehended sewing club members!!!
And so life goes on as we remember ever more stories and regenerate the laughter of olden times!
My deepest sympathy to all.
Thelma (Patterson) Vincent.

Well it says share a Memory of Rita, so that is what I am going to do. I remember when we were building the Elphin Church hall back in 1992/93 and we had GST auctions to raise money for the building fund. Goods-Services and Talents and Rita donated some of her delicious dinner rolls that she always made for all the church dinners. I am pretty sure they went for $30. a dozen if not more. Rita was a fabulous cook and baker. She was so loved by all her cottagers and I never, ever heard a bad word spoken about her. She organized so many of the church dinners, funeral luncheons and always would make pies for the Fall Fair. She can never be replaced. Our deepest sympathy to Pam, Karen, Dora, Mary and Tom, Ding and all the families. You are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad and difficult time. God Bless
