I had the pleasure of getting to know and work with Don in two different contexts. First when he was an elementary school Arts consultant between 75-85, and secondly as a gr. 7/8 teacher at Sharbot Lake High school when I was VP there from 1985-87. In both contexts, Don was an amazing person to work with. He was always VERY creative and could come up with amazing and engaging activities for students - made out of things which many people would discard. It was always clear that Don's first priority was his students. In addition he was always very caring and supportive of his colleagues. I learned a lot from Don and always felt that he one of STARS of Education in Frontenac County. I feel privileged that our paths crossed along the journey of life.
Sincerely,
Dickson Mansfield.

Our sincere condolences to Don’s family. Don always had great stories to tell his students which kept them interested: stories about history of the area, stories about his life and the community. He was generous with his time and always helpful to other teachers. He was a very talented artist as well. Don was so kind and helped my Dad when they were at Rideau Country Home which I greatly appreciated. Rest In Peace Don, a life well lived.

Terry and Family:
On behalf of my husband, Don, and myself, I extend our sincere condolences on the loss of your brother Don, whom I always called R.D.. R.D. and your family were a big part of my life in Mississippi. Your mother was always dropping by with baked goodies and she was my first baby sitter. R.D. took my best friend, Jackie Gibson, and me under his wing at an early age and taught us various skills, including roller skating and skiing. He walked us to our first day in public school. He had a close relationship with my mother, who was his teacher. At her funeral, he brought a bouquet of daises, her favourite flower. R.D. and I shared an affection for the trains that stopped twice daily in Mississippi and he gave me a photo of one that I treasure and which hangs in our home. R.D. and I have kept in touch over the years, exchanging letters, phone calls and cards on special occasions. He always thoughtfully included items of local news that he knew Don and I would be interested in. When I think of Mississippi, I think of R.D. and I shall always remember him as a kind, generous and caring friend. Gail & Don Kerr

My most sincere condolences for your painful loss.
Death is without a doubt a very cruel enemy that attacks us all equally.
I imagine Mr. Don was a person very loved and respected by his family, who must be deeply saddened by his death, but the Bible gives us a message of comfort.
In Isaiah 25: 8 it says: “He will remove death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe the tears from all faces. He will remove from all the earth the dishonor of his people, because Jehovah himself has said so.”
How beautiful will be the day when death will be resurrected and we can see again our loved ones who have passed away.
Have a nice day and that the family does not know of sorrows.
In the link I leave you a beautiful video called: “Is there hope for the Dead.”

Don was my grade 8 teacher - and my favourite! We were the first graduating class from Land O'Lakes Public School and at our graduation dinner, my mom thought it was so cool as he sat with us kids and not the staff. Always lots of fun in his class and always learned a lot. He was a true blessing.

We certainly thank God for giving us Don. He showed me by example how to write a column for the Frontenac News and how to be a good community person. We still talk of Don's news columns- particularly the one about the fox who got his tail got in Don's running vaccum cleaner- outside on the hill! It's a tale on Don tell- and I'm sure he's telling it now in heaven. Our sympathy and prayers to you all

Our condolences to RD's family. I have lost my birthday buddy and I will miss his phone calls when he would call Pharmasave and have his shopping list for me . Always pens, paper, envelopes, stamps and let's not for the chocolate bar with small squares . I always enjoyed our conversations and catching up. RIP RD, you will be missed

So sorry to hear that RD as I always remember him being called has gone. He was always so much fun to talk to and was never at a loss for words or a story to tell. He used to give our oldest daughter Tanya books when she was very little because he knew she loved to read. He was also a great teacher and I am sure that a there still many of his students that remember him. A life well lived.
Sincere Condolences

I am so sorry to hear of Don's passing. I knew him while he lived at Rideau Ferry Country Home. He was a real gentleman, and loved to talk of Mississippi, his home and his teaching career. What impressed me most about Don, was his kindness and social etiquette, he was so well spoken. When my father, also a resident at Rideau Ferry was hospitalized, Don got a card and send it to him. It was so thoughtful and it meant so much to us that Dad had real "friends" there. When ever my parents were out of the home, Don would be waiting for an update. I am sure you have far more stories of Don than I do, but I wanted to pass my condolences to Don's family, whom I never met. He was a real gem. God bless him.
