I was saddened to learn of Doug's passing. Please accept my deepest condolences in your loss. I remember Doug as a kind and caring person, always cordial and sincere. As a youngster, I recall him as the "shoe man" in the Gore Street store, then continuing to serve people as our Member in the Provincial Legislature. I also recall receiving congratulatory letters from him while serving with the OPP on promotions and for an awards received for an act while on duty. A true gentleman in all of his endeavours. He will be missed.

I served in the adjacent riding to Doug and in the Cabinet of Ontario. Doug brought to the table the issues and concerns of the rural and small towns of Eastern Ontario with great passion and effectiveness. He always had his constituents in mind at Queens Park. I was privileged to represent Lanark County from 1999 to 2007 and often heard of his good work. My thoughts and prayers are with Bunnie, Doug's Family and all of his many friends. He was a good and effective MPP. Norman Sterling

I used to work in the Bill Davis government as a political staffer, eventually working in the Premier's Office. I remember Doug well as one of our better members and ministers. He was the kind of politician you saw represented many times in the Davis government -- they saw their jobs truly as a public service and treated the process and the electorate with considerable respect. I tried to emulate the lessons I had learned from Minister Wiseman and Premier Davis and their colleagues when I found myself elected in the Harris-Eves government. I offer all of Doug's family and friends my sincerest condolences.

My sympathy to the Wiseman family.
As a reporter covering Lanark County, I came to know Doug as a caring hardworking MPP who was committed to serving his constituents.
He got into politics for all the right reasons and remained true to those principles both in his private and public life.
The world would be a better place today if we had more politicians like Doug Wiseman, a humble and truly decent man.

I was very proud to know, and to serve in the Legislative Assembly and Cabinet, with such an outstanding person as Doug Wiseman. We were among the 29 new PC Members elected in October, 1971.
During my time as Minister of Health, it was my good fortune to welcome Doug to the Ministry as my Parliamentary Assistant. He quickly became a well-informed, thoughtful and valued advisor on some very sensitive and thorny issues. Doug Wiseman was one of those select few who gave politics a good name.
Ontario is a better place for having had the benefit of his service.

Doug was a wonderful man and politician. He represented the citizens equally, regardless of their political leanings. He truly showed what representation looks like when it is done with dignity.
I have lots of memories of Doug from over the years. Seeing his beautiful cows in the field as a child and wanting to pet them (I was not allowed, but the compliment was appreciated by Doug). Being in the hospital at the same time and him visiting me and making sure I was OK, even though he wasn't feeling very well himself. Always seeming to remember who people were and who their families were. His beloved (and gorgeous) cars that he would willingly show to anyone who asked.

Bunny, Clifford, Karen, and Robert—my deepest sympathy; I have fond memories of your time on Drummond St across the street from us (long time ago) and my brother Doug and I going with Clifford and Karen and their Dad Doug to visit the cattle (I think out the Lanark Rd) and many fun times at your Bass Lake cottage and buying shoes at Wiseman’s and even an Easter bonnet from the hat boutique. I remember when you moved to the farm on the Rideau Ferry Rd. Memories..., and you will cherish yours.
