Diane, Mary Lou, Orme, Jane and John Thomas, please accept my sincere sympathy on the loss of your Mom. During my school years, I spent a lot of time with Diane at your home and Amy always made me feel so welcome. Amy and I wrote to each other every Christmas and it was always so nice to hear from her and to catch up on the news of each family member. The last time I saw Amy was at her 90th birthday party on a very snowy Saturday afternoon in January, 2011, she looked wonderful and certainly enjoyed the celebration. She was so appreciative of the work you went to to celebrate her special day and to those of us who were able to be there to share the day with her and the family. Cherish your memories, Sue Anne (Dowsett) Harper

Amy was a true "Force of Nature". You always knew where you stood with Amy because she wasn't shy about letting you know, Good or Bad. I well remember the many visits with Mary Lou or Jane over the years when she came to visit with my Bren when she was ill. She was a unique one of a kind strong willed Lady. I rather enjoyed her. My sincere condolences to ALL of the Murphy family.

To Orm, John and all the Murphy family,
We are so sorry for the loss of your mother. Your mother was a great inspiration to all of us "high school friends" in so many ways. She openly accepted and welcomed everyone, fed and sheltered us and would sit and listen to our stories with her large doberman by her side. We were amazed (I was for sure) by her abilities to control and direct the unleashed guard dog while in a group of ruckus teens. Amy's beautiful wit made us laugh and her calm presence was like a warm blanket on a frosty night.
Our deepest condolences to your family.

Diane, Mary-Lou, and the family of Amy, I was very sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom!
I knew your Mom to see, but knew your Dad much better as he became my parents' doctor after Art passed away - my Mom, also a nurse, swore by the Murphy doctors.
Your Mom must have been very special, having a maiden name "Slack" - my wife was also a Slack, no relation, because we know she was not related to your cousin, Ian.
I had the pleasure of knowing Diane and Mary-Lou, but know my brothers, Alan and Ian, had the Murphy kids as friends.
May you be comforted by fond memories of the many happy years you had with your Mom!
Don Cooper, Kingston.

When I learned of Amy’s passing, so many memories were recalled. I spent a great deal of my childhood at the amazing Murphy home in town .. birthday parties, Amy’s famous chili and her delicious turkey casserole! Other memories include the Fabulous family times on the St Lawrence at the Murphy cottage and how we’d fight over which kid got to sit on top of the inboard engine of the awesome cedar boat!
Amy was the best hostess and always went above and beyond to make you feel welcome. My brother Bob and I have you all in our thoughts.

My sincerest sympathy to all of Amy’s family on the loss of an amazing woman. I first got to know Amy when I joined Eastern Star. Her charismatic personality drew me to her immediately, and she became a wonderful friend. We shared a love of baking and gardening, and shared recipes and plants. I will never forget going to visit her on McGill Street, only to find this little old lady( probably around 80), out with her shovel digging up her bulbs ! Nothing stopped her.
I was also her Avon lady for many years, and always enjoyed some of her home baking each time I stopped in.
She was a very special person indeed !

My sympathy to all Amy’s Family. I first knew Amy many years ago at the “old” Curling Club on James Street. Amy invited me into her home many times for winter and summer get togethers. She was a great hostess. Jane I’m sure you remember those fun times. We then curled at the “new” Club. Amy knew the rules and etiquette of the game well. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Sincerely, Marilyn.
