Linda and Family, my sincerest condolences on Ed's passing.
For those of us who worked with him, Ed Dale had a large presence and cast a big shadow within the Parks Canada family. Ed will be well remembered for his sharp humor and great wit. Being on the butt end of an Ed Dale practical joke did not put you in a particularly small group, and was almost a rite of passage on the Rideau Canal, whether member of the public or co-worker, no one was spared.
What many of Ed's colleagues may not have known was that Ed was one of the originators and strongest promoters of the Employee and Family Assistance Program on the Rideau Canal, as well as throughout Parks Canada. I had the opportunity of travelling with Ed, as well as the rest of our EFAP group, to training sessions every fall for many years, giving witness to the deference and complete respect that group accorded Ed. It would not be any form of exaggeration to state that Ed was a 'veritable monster' to the success and effectiveness of the EFAP , so great was his contribution and commitment .
Ed Dale gave selflessly and tirelessly of his time to help his fellow Parks Canada colleagues through his long term Union presence as well. Many years of Parks Canada employees, when feeling like their back was against the wall, whether for Union or EFAP issues, knew that day or night, they could call Eddie ! I would like to acknowledge and Thank Linda, and Ed's family, for all of those countless hours he spent in service to his colleagues outside of work.
Rest In Peace, My Friend. You well earned it.
