Obituary of Jane Elizabeth Robertson

Robertson, Jane Elizabeth Code
Suddenly and without the warning of an illness, on January 5, 2021, at Perth, Ontario, in her 89th year. We are grateful that she did not suffer and had just enjoyed a lovely, last Christmas. She had come full circle, recently returning to her birthplace and proximity to her favourite place on earth, the cottage on Otty Lake, where extended family gathered and friends were always welcome.

Jane trained as a nurse at Kingston General Hospital and married her high school sweetheart, Herb Robertson. In those days, bankers moved often. By the time she was 30, Jane had four children and each child was born in a different place-including Germany. As a result, Jane was practical, resourceful and unflappable. The family eventually settled in Scarborough and Jane enjoyed a second career as a political campaign volunteer and the manager of a cabinet minister's constituency office.

She never let the facts get in the way of a good story. She had flair. She wore capes. She was a twin. For her, more really was merrier. She was creative-a prolific quilter, a fearless interior decorator, a champion knitter, an all-round craftswoman. Plus, a world traveller, a fierce feminist and an unabashed people watcher. She had a great life and we will miss her terribly.

Jane is survived by three of her children: Bruce (Kelly McCarthy), Judith (Mike Patti) and Brian (Jessica); her nine grandchildren: Alex, Chris and Riley; Brendan and Siobhan; Nina and Elizabeth; Sarah and Danielle; numerous nieces and nephews (great and otherwise); and cousins of various degrees of removal. Predeceased by her true life partner and husband of 58 years, Herb Robertson, her cherished daughter Janet (Louis) Lazaris, her much-loved siblings David (Joyce) Code, Nancy (late Frank) Roseborough, Peter (late Ann) Code and her dear parents Ed and Gwyneth Code.

A celebration of Jane's life will be held when conditions permit. If considering a donation to honour Jane, the Salvation Army and the Girl Guides were two organizations she admired. Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Directors, Perth.
