Obituary of Joyce Estella Dinner-Latourell

Joyce Dinner-Latourell (Hill) RNA

March 19, 1927 -

January 30, 2021

Joyce passed away peacefully at the Smiths Falls District Hospital on January 30, 2021, surrounded by her family.  Those who were unable to be with her held her in their thoughts and prayers.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Dinner, in 1961 and by her second husband, John Latourell, in 2013.

Joyce was the loving and proud mother of Cynthia Olson (Alan), Allan Dinner (Diane), the late Joanne Smith (Allan), the late William Dinner, Daniel Dinner (Jane) and Colleen Willoughby (Lloyd).  She was a devoted grandmother to Christopher Olson (Rebekah) and the late David Olson; Angela Dinner and Jeffrey Dinner (Besa); Bradley Smith (Yim) and David Smith (Krisann); Andrea Dinner (Trevor) and Mark Dinner (Farren); Ryan Willoughby (Danielle) and Alex Willoughby (Amanda).

Joyce was the dear sister of Beryl Smith (Earl) and was predeceased by brother Frank Hill (Elva), sisters Marilynne Blair (Reg) and Patsy Jane Roobol (Cor).  She was predeceased by her parents Harold Hill, Estella Hill (Boland) and Clarice Hill (Jeffrey).  Her family meant so much to her and she was a loving aunt to many nieces, nephews and their families.

The arrival of great-grandchildren was a source of joy and she was blessed with thirteen additional family members, Leif, Patrick, Gunnar and Imogen Olson; Colton Woodman; Sierra Dinner; Taylor and Sydney Smith; Jack Lapoint; Weston Dinner; Mathew Willoughby; Ashton and Avery Willoughby.  In addition to her "Dinner" family she is fondly remembered by John's children, Kim, Brian, Valerie and Cathie as well as their families.

While Joyce was raising her six children on her own, she entered the Registered Nursing Assistant programme at the Brockville General Hospital and graduated in 1970.  She was employed at St. Francis Hospital and RCA Victor.  When RCA closed in Smiths Falls in 1979, she moved to Toronto with her daughter Colleen.  After a short time she returned to Smiths Falls and began working at Broadview Nursing Home until her retirement.

After her marriage to John she enjoyed their home on Otty Lake and spending winters in Florida.  Their move back to Smiths Falls meant that they were closer to family.  Family gatherings were always a source of pleasure to Joyce and John.

Her family wishes to thank Dr. Graeme Hendry for years of care and support.  In addition appreciation is extended to Bayshore staff who provided daily assistance for several years.  Though her stay at Broadview Retirement Lodge was brief, she was once again, well supported.  During the final three months of her life the medical and support staff of the Smiths Falls Hospital provided excellent care.

Due to the current Covid-19 guidelines, private visitation and services will be held at Blair & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls. In memory of Joyce, donations to the Smiths Falls Community Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
