Tim and Charlene, John and Cauleen, Mark , and Rob,
Just wanted to extend our sympathies on the passing of your dad. As you know, my first job as a graduate pharmacist was at Mcshane and Shanks and your dad was invaluable in giving me direction and teaching me the ropes of the pharmacy business.
I have fond memories of working with your dad as well as most of you as well. He was a pillar of the pharmacy community for many, many years and will be missed.

Tim, Charlene and the Shanks Family....I have been gathering up my memories of interactions with Art, Velma and the Shanks family, many of which include our first years in Smiths Falls. Art was an unfailingly sweet gentleman whenever I would see or speak with him at church or at the pharmacy or, in later years, at the grocery store. He, like so many of the parents of my friends, were a part of our childhood in Smiths Falls and we were so lucky to have them. Regards, Wendy

Dear John & Family:
Our heartfelt sympathy in the loss of this true gentleman. Forever kind and gentle in his manner to the multitude of clients he so endeared himself to in all his years of service to our community. I recall him comforting a distraught mother at the store on Elmsley Street. He took her hand and placed in it the contents of a package for her sick child, all the while assuring her of its' restorative properties for her little one. Of course Art took no funds - his only interest - the sick child and the upset mother during those Winter days. An unsung hero, a humble man who anonymously practiced charity to those in need.
Someone gilded with a droll sense of humor and one liners that often spelled comic relief at the worst of times. Art certainly had his moments, from visiting his gold, relocating less than 50 yards because he liked the neighborhood, to Saturday yard sales.
Doc Shanks was our go to guy........Kevin

My deepest sympathy to all Art’s Family. I first knew Art in 1964 when I worked for Dr. Tom Ashwell. I talked with him many times over the phone and often at McShane & Shanks. He was a great Pharmacist. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Sincerely, Marilyn.

Please accept our deepest condolences on Art’s passing. My dad ( Jack Peebles ) and Art were best friends since childhood and they shared many good times growing up in Smiths Falls and then in adulthood. I often saw Art and Velma out for a stroll around town and always enjoyed our chats. Art was a gentleman’s gentleman and a good friend to all.
Sincerely,
Philip Peebles and family

I extend my condolences to the Shanks family. Your dad was a cousin of my mother, Margaret Currie, and I was a classmate of Mark. Art was such a great gentleman. Such a kind, caring, dignified man. Although he’ll be missed, the thought of a beautiful couple reunited forever, must bring you comfort. May warm memories console you.
Sincerely,

My condolences to the Shanks family. Art and Velma were both members of the choir at St. Francis de Sales, Smiths Falls while I was organist there. A lovely couple.....Art love to sing and had a very nice voice! This was a social outing for them and they enjoyed visiting with everybody. I also remember Art at McShane and Shanks. He was always there and ready and willing to help.
Rest in a peace Art.
