Obituary of Pat Mackler

Mackler, Patricia Mary (nee Publow)

Surrounded by the love of her family, Patricia (Pat) Mackler, (née Publow), passed peacefully in Smiths Falls Hospital after nearly 20 years on kidney dialysis on March 1st, 2021. Pat was the loved daughter of Wilfred and Kathleen (Noonan) Publow, best friend and loving wife of the late Francis Mackler and cherished mother of Brenda (John), Geoffrey (Marla), Tom (Beth) and Laura (Nick). Pat loved more than anything being Nans/Nanny to her grandchildren; Andrew, Grace, Avery, Micayla, Braedan, Jake (Emily) and Layne. She will be deeply missed by her brother & sister in laws; Joan (George) Casey, Steve & Marie Carroll, Cathy (Jack) & Don Pennett, Billy & Lillian Mackler along with many nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her close circle of friends; many she's had since childhood. Pat grew up in Perth, loving school, her family & friends. After her Mom passed away when Pat was 15, she and her Dad remained very close. After a brief year in nursing Pat became a teacher and worked at St. John's Elementary for many years & then later at TayCare Children Center. After marrying Francis, she also took on the role of a dairy farmer's wife, raising four kids & teaching in the day - she was a busy woman. Family, community & her deep faith were very important to Pat, who was very involved in St. Bridget's Church for over 50 years. She was a people person who genuinely took interest in those around her, a skill that was appreciated at her many volunteer positions, including Lanark Lodge, for many years.  She loved music, dancing, cards, sports, journaling, genealogy & 'farm/bus trips' with friends. A busy house filled with family was where she was the happiest. Pat was plagued with difficult health situations for many decades but handled all of them with an incredible amount of strength.  We would like to thank Dr. White (Kidney Specialist), along with Darlene and the Smiths Falls dialysis nurses who have treated Mom like family for years. Also, many thanks to Lanark Lifestyles for the care & support given to Mom over the last several months. Finally, to all the neighbours, friends & family who assisted with drives to dialysis for many years - we appreciate your love, support and time very much. Due to Covid restrictions a private Funeral Mass will be held Saturday March 6th 2020 in Stanleyville. Donations to the Smiths Falls Community Hospital Foundation (Kidney Dalysis Unit ), 60 Cornelia St., Smith Falls K7A 2H9  in Pat's name would be much appreciated. Thank you & in the words of Mom "God Bless".  Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Directors, Perth.
