Obituary of Sheila Gertrude Murray-Ragsdale

March 21, 1953 - April 12, 2021

Sheila passed away at her sister’s home in Smiths Falls surrounded by her loving family after a valiant battle with cancer. Sheila was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer and transferred to the Ottawa Hospital on January 1, 2019. Her cancer responded to treatment for one year but sadly metastasized to her brain in the form of leptomeningeal cancer (2020). Consequently, Sheila was given 3-6 months to live, but battled on for almost 15 months. There were many “firsts” for the oncology and palliative care departments during Sheila’s journey. Never had they met such a warrior. She leaves behind her adoring husband and best friend of 43 years, Wayne Ragsdale. She was his everything. Cherished mother to Karen Prine (Jeffrey Prine). Never will there be a stronger bond. Proud momma to Glenn Prine. He was the light of her life. Devoted sister to Barbara LeBlanc, Charles Murray (Vanita), Daniel Murray, Margery Healey (Ray), Terry Murray (Janice), and Peter Murray (Patti). She will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Sheila enjoyed life to its fullest. She loved to laugh and spend time with her family. Sheila loved music with such a passion. There was no one more vivacious. She enjoyed going for walks as much as the air she breathed. May she walk once again in eternal peace. Special thanks to her sister, Margery Healey, who graciously offered her home so that her family could care for her in her final days. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held, with a private interment to follow at a later date. In remembrance of Sheila, contributions can be made to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation-Cancer Research.
