Obituary of Margaret Rosemary Clist

Peacefully in Perth in her 98th year.  Cherished wife and best friend of the late Trevor Clist for 63 years.  Loving mother to Sarah (Randy), Jonathan (Roberta) and Michael (Nancy).  Proud grandmother of Nicholas, Jennifer (Ryan), Dominique, Danielle, Thomas and Daniele, and treasured great-grandmother to Fiona, Storm and Darwin.

Margaret was predeceased by her brother Raymond (Maida) and is survived by her brothers Robert King (late May), and Dennis King (Marian) and their families, including niece, Janet (Dale) Leavens.

Born in Chelmsford, Essex, England and married after WWII, Margaret (and Trevor) emigrated to Canada in 1957.  They settled in Ottawa where Margaret put her teaching career on hold to raise their three children.  She resumed her teaching career with the Carleton Board of Education where Margaret was one of the first Special Education teachers, spending her teaching time at Huntley Centennial School in Carp.

Margaret loved spending time with family at the cottage on Crosby Lake. Whether building rock walls, having a G&T on the deck or swimming in the lake.   It was her happy place!  Margaret enjoyed golfing where she was a patron of the Links O’Tay golf club until the age of 90 and she was a proud member of the hole-in-one club.  Margaret enjoyed singing in the choir for many years at St. James Anglican Church in Perth.  She will be remembered for her love of travel, reading, gardening, knitting and needlework crafts and her competitive spirit when playing cards, rummy and bridge.

Dad will be waiting with your tea.

We are extremely grateful to the doctors, nurses and PSWs who assisted Mum in this difficult past year, with particular thanks going to the wonderful second floor staff at Lanark Lifestyles in Perth for their kindness and caring manner.

Donations can be made in memory of Margaret to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation 40 Ruskin Street, Room H-2408 Ottawa, Ontario  K1Y 4W7 or the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation 33 Drummond St. W.
