Really sad to hear this. Vinnie was my Dad's high school buddy, but I was lucky enough to hang out with him a few times. The first memory I thought of is the time he took us on a fishing trip about 30 years ago and we caught more bass than I'd caught in my entire life up to that point. I remember Vinny walking through the tall grass and lunging to grab frogs, like a little kid haha. I also remember his big laugh.
For some reason, I remember my Dad asking him that day about his work on the trains and how he passes the time on the long journeys. Does he read a book etc? And he just shrugged, smiled, and said "Nah, I just think."
Don't know what that stuck with me for 30 years, but it did.
God Bless his memory and his family.
Gavin

I send my deepest condolences to dear Kathy and the family. Vinnie was a great buddy when a small group of us pioneered the first Grade 11 & 12 classes at Hanley Hall. Vin had that same rich wit and sense of humour that I remember his dear Dad and Mom both had. I fondly remember some great overnight poker games at Vin's house near the tracks. On those nights, Vin and Real and I would often play, and replay, poker scenes from the Steve McQueen movie 'The Cincinnati Kid' while listening Roy Orbison records and sampling several Molson's X. I seem to recall that movie was where Vinnie picked up his cool ‘Yancy’ nickname for a while on our St. Francis football team. I also remember that Vince contracted a few tough bouts of pneumonia around then, but it never dampened his optimism and sense of humour. You were a great one Vinnie. You and your dear Kathy and all your family will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
I've just made a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society's research sector focusing on melanoma treatments and potentially on improved early warnings. So Vinnie, I’m hoping that you will look down periodically from up there in heaven and help inspire them - just like you did for so many of us while you were still down here. God bless you good buddy. Peter Heffernan

Historically, one of the highest praises bestowed on a Railroader by his peers is to be known as a Gentleman. Vince Hamilton was the definition of a Gentleman. He was a wonderful family man, proud of his children. He always thought of his Brothers and Sisters in the Union before himself and served them with honour and dignity. It has been my pleasure to know Vince and my heart goes out to Kathleen and the family on their loss. Rest in Peace Brother, you will be remembered and you will be missed by all those who had the great fortune to know and love you.
