Obituary of Clara Davidson Hart

The family of Clara Hart are sad to announce her passing on Saturday, May 8, 2021, just six days short of her 96th birthday.  Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Clara (known to her Scottish family as Clarice, and her Canadian family as Clare) spent most of her childhood in Millport in the west of Scotland, before moving with her family back to Glasgow in 1939; subsequently surviving numerous bombing raids during WWII.  At the wedding of her youngest brother George in 1956, Clare met her future husband, RCAF F/Lt Harold “Red” Hart.  They were married in Glasgow on July 8, 1957, and moved to Gimli, Manitoba, where Red was stationed with the RCAF.  In the following years, Red’s career took them across Canada, as well as the USA and Germany, before finally settling in Summerside, PEI for 35 years.  In 2013, Red and Clare moved to Perth, Ontario, to be closer to their youngest son George.  Clare was a lively, social woman, with many interests and talents.  She curled for many years, was always active in her church, and enjoyed creative activities including knitting, rug hooking and painting.  She especially loved to entertain and cook for her family and for others.  Her shortbread was legendary.  Clare loved to travel and explore everywhere she lived, and right up until her final years, she was so happy to be taken out on short or long car trips, preferably if there was an ice cream cone to be had along the way.  Clare especially loved her frequent visits back to the UK to visit her extended family and friends.  Maintaining this family connection was very important to her.  Clare will be missed by her children, Lesley, Peter, and George, as well as her grandchildren Laura, Robert, Graham, Fiona, and Allison, and great-grandson Kenneth-Christopher (KC).  She will also be missed by her McCall clan, Pearl, Ann, Vivien, Mark and Keith and their families, as well as by the extended Hart family.  Clare was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Harold “Red” Hart, and her three brothers, Charles, Tom, and George McCall. Clare’s family would like to acknowledge and thank all the staff at the Perth Community Care Centre for taking such wonderful care of their mother over the past five years.
