Obituary of Kathleen O'Malley
Catherine “Kathleen” O’Malley
Kathleen who loved to be called “Mom”, “Grandmama” and “Big Grandma” by her Children, Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren, departed her loving family on June 21, 2021.
Kathleen was born in Achill Island, Co. Mayo, Ireland on January 16th, 1932, to Celia Lynchean and Thomas Lavelle.
Kathleen was mother to her late son John (Sean) O’Malley and daughter Bridget Ziegler. She raised her children with love and devotion alongside her late husband John O’Malley.
Kathleen was the life of the party, with a vivacious personality that made friends no matter where she went. She was honest, and never hesitated to share her opinion, which is what drew everyone in and kept all those around her laughing. Kathleen loved the Toronto Maple Leafs almost as much as her hometown of Achill, she enjoyed sharing old stories, and was amazingly talented at knowing all the gossip. She was not only a fantastic mother but an impeccable grandmother and an exceptional great grandmother, that with each generation that passed, let all rules fly out the window. She was adamant she always looked her best, well dressed, perfectly set hair, and she always ensured just the right amount of rouge and lipstick, as she had to be prepared for whomever she may run into while out and about. Kathleen’s personality and humor will be missed by all those near and far and will forever bring joyful memories to the lives she touched over her many wonderful years. Thank you to all of the truly amazing staff at Lanark Lodge for providing Kathleen with a warm home during her short stay.
She is survived by her daughter Bridget (Mark) Ziegler and their children Nicole Ziegler and Ryan(Ellie) Ziegler, and their son Arthur Ziegler. In addition her Granddaughter Erin O’Malley her partner Vaibhav (Web) Sharma and Kathleen’s Great Grandchild Keshawn O’Malley.
“Ar Dhies dé go Raibh a Anam Uasal” (May her noble soul be at the right hand of God)
Services will be held in Achill Island, Co. Mayo, Ireland at a later date.
In remembrance of Kathleen, contributions to the Lanark Lodge Memorial Fund would be appreciated. Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Directors, Perth.
