1923-2021

Edith Nutter passed away on July 29, 2021 with her family by her side in Perth, ON. She was born in Boisetown, NB to the Reverend Bruce and Lulu (Silliphant) Carew. Beloved wife for 71 years of the late Most Reverend Harold Nutter, Edith is survived by her daughter Patricia (Paul Gervais), son Reverend Bruce Nutter (Priscilla), two Grandsons, Timothy (Rachel) and Christopher Hunsley and one Great Grandson, Gavin Hunsley. She is survived by her Brother, E Bayne Carew; predeceased by her Brothers Elmer and Hilton Carew.

Edith Nutter graduated from Mount Allison University in 1945 where she met her future Husband. She worked for the Children’s Aid Society and the Province of New Brunswick.

She was an extraordinary woman who had an extraordinary life filled with family and friends, service to her community and church. Edith was the constant helpmate and partner to her Husband in the Parishes of Simonds and Upham, St. Luke’s in Woodstock, St. Mark’s Stone Church in Saint John, Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton. She traveled with her husband throughout the Diocese of Fredericton,  Canada and internationally as he performed his duties as Bishop and Metropolitan of the Province of Canada. Edith was active in the Anglican Church Women (ACW), Sunday Schools, and other parish groups.

She loved spending time at their cottage on Washademoak Lake and travelling the Maritimes, especially Prince Edward Island. In 2011, Edith and Harold moved to Perth, Ontario to be closer to Patricia and her family.

The family is grateful to Lanark Lifestyles Retirement Residence and the staff  who cared for her during the past two years, Dr. Bob Van Noppen, and the caring staff at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.

There will be two funeral services. The first will be at St. James Anglican Church in Perth, Ontario on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be at 1:30 PM in the Church.

The second funeral service will be in Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton, NB at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Christ Church Cathedral Restoration Fund, the Archbishop Harold Nutter Scholarship Fund of the Diocese of Fredericton, the Primate’s World Relief Fund or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
