Obituary of Joan Elizabeth Longpre
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our wonderful mother Joan on Sunday, August 8, 2021, at the age of 95. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Ernest (1987) and her dear son Michael Fagan in 2011. Loving mom to Terry Fagan (Allison), Lorraine Smith (Kent), Catherine Hatfield (Ed), Mark Longpre (Mariette), Daniel Longpre (Liz). Beloved grandmother of 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Joan will be fondly remembered by her daughter-in-law Maggie, as well as her many other extended family and friends. In 1971, she graduated with honours as an RNA at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and worked at the Riverside Hospital for many years. Mom was an active member at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Lombardy, and was the President of the Anglican Church Women in the Diocese of Ontario (Kingston) in 1998-1999. She was awarded the Certificate of Merit in 1999 on behalf of the Anglican Church of Canada. Mom loved to play cards and go to lunch with her many friends, young and old. She was always ready to help anyone in need, and cherished her years living at Bass Lake. Her last few years were spent at Bridlewood Trails, where she met some wonderful friends. Mom lived with faith, courage and strength that has changed the lives of everyone who knew her. Rest peacefully, Mom, we love you. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Due to Covid 19 protocols there will be a private family service held at a later date, with the interment to follow at Holy Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery in Lombardy. If desired, memorial donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation in support of cancer research, or Parkinson Canada would be greatly appreciated.
