Obituary of Betty Matte

Passed peacefully on August 29, 2021 at the age of 78 years in Smiths Falls. Predeceased by her parents Harry & Margaret Stead (nee Hirsch). Betty leaves behind her beloved husband Claude Joseph Matte of 58 years; her children Claudette Wiebe (Barry), Daniel Matte (Kimberly), and Michelle McGrath (Stephen); grandchildren Alexander (Brittany) & Megan (Jon), Justin (Steph) & Katelyn (Will), and Victoria (Jason) & Cassandra (Hunter); great-grandchildren Luke Matte & Sophie Brown, and Kherrington & Kessler Wiebe (Regina, Sask); her siblings Elaine Bohn (Ray), Eileen Barron (Ken), Allan Stead (Colleen), Anne Bittman (Udo), and Joseph Stead (Deb), as well as her numerous brothers and sisters-in law, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was a basketball player in Regina during her college years, and worked with the Royal Bank of Canada for over 30 years. She was a creative woman with many hobbies, though her greatest hobby and passion was being involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she cherished. Betty enjoyed volunteering for the Parkinson’s Society and assisting with charity fundraising when she could. Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects at Wolford Cemetery (Jasper, ON) on Monday September 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to either Parkinson’s Canada or to the Wolford Cemetery where Betty will be laid to rest.
