I posted a new picture on my profile of my dad, Dick Donaldson. We had an excellent Family Reunion on July 27 and he was able to come to the cottage and be with his sister, Vera, brother, Shane and his beautiful and devoted wife, Elizabeth and his children, and many many family members. He smiled and laughed and hugged and had an excellent day.
He watched the kids splashing in the water and go tubing behind his boat he loved. Thank you, Dave Atkinson for driving our family around in the boat and taking the double tubers out and trying to get them to fall off, lol. Thank you to all the people who helped make this event happen this special year!
It is with a heavy heart to share that my dad passed away on July 29 at his home with his lovely wife, Liz at his side,
He had been diagnosed with a progressive disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and yet, he lived longer than most expected. This is in part to his strong spirit and the loving and excellent care from his wife, Elizabeth. Love you and thank you for taking such good care of him.

Uncle Richard has been a big part of my life. I spent many summer days at "the Donaldson's". His kids were like my siblings. And I know my mom cared for each and every one of them as if they were her kids too. The Donaldson's is where I first started watching The Young and the Restless at lunchtime, ate dumplings <yuck Kimmy> and learned that you did not step away from the supper table unless you had eaten everything on your plate. When my son became interested in cadets, Uncle Richard was his biggest supporter. He was there for Preston's first flight in a glider, first Mess Dinner and presented him with the Top Recruit award (aka Dick Donaldson award) in 2013. Thank you for this Uncle Richard! We will miss you but I know you are sitting down having a cup of tea with my mom and dad and telling them how the family has expanded and transformed over the years. And best of all - all of you are no longer in pain. God Bless from Alison, Gene and Preston.</p>

Niece's perspective

Uncle Richard played a large part in my life. His "kids" were like my siblings. As a kid, in the summer, I spent more time at his place than I did at home. "I am going to the Donaldson's" my mom often heard as I headed out the door. And she never minded because as far as she was concerned they were her kids too. I was so lucky to live around the corner. At "the Donaldson's" is where I first watched The Young and the Restless at lunchtime, ate dumplings <yuck Kimmy>, and learned that you never left the table until you ate everything on your plate. Many Christmas eves were celebrated in the basement of the house on McDonald Street. Later when my son became interested in the air cadet program, Uncle Richard fully supported every activity he took on. He was there for Preston's first flight in a glider, first Mess Dinner, and presented him with the top recruit award (aka the Dick Donaldson award) in 2013. Thank you for this. And now, in true Uncle Richard form, I am sure he is currently telling my mom, Colleen, my dad and grandma how the family has expanded and transformed over the last couple of years, as well as the Town of Smiths Falls. And like my mom and my dad, he is no longer in pain. I am glad you are all together. Hugs.</p>
