Obituary of Anna Grace Shaw

Much loved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, and friend; Ann passed away peacefully on September 19, 2022 in her 93rd year.

Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband Bill, her mother and father Mae and Clarke McLaren, her brother Ab McLaren, and her granddaughter Anna Nicole.  She leaves behind her sons Bruce (Gail), Bob, Brent (Kathy), and her daughter Susan (Steve), as well as her grandchildren Chris (Kelly), Becky (Adam), Lyndi, Blake, Laura (Brandon), Daniel (Victoria), Adrienne and Robin, and her great grandchildren Ivyanna, Isla, Maggie, Clara, Amy, Zach, Maddy and William.  Ann is also survived by her sisters-in-law Marjorie Walker, Gert Paul, and Denny Shaw.

Ann was a hardworking, selfless person with boundless energy who was very loyal and supportive to those around her. She and Bill loved hosting family and friends on the Big Rideau, where it was always like arriving at a fully equipped resort with great food, drink, and a host of activities to keep you entertained.  Ann’s baking was legendary and shortly after arrival everyone scoured the cookie jars and freezer to grab their favourites.

Ann was immensely proud of her family and always loved having everyone around whether on the Big Rideau or in Florida where she and Bill spent their winters.  She was never fazed by the chaos of having all her grandchildren running around – it must have been her years as a primary school teacher while at the same time raising 4 children that prepared her.

Special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Hazeldean Retirement Residence in Stittsville for your compassion and support of Ann for the last 3 years, particularly through these difficult COVID times.

A private family memorial service will be held.   Those wishing to honour the memory of Ann are asked to please contribute to the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Program

Ann will be deeply missed by her family – may she rest in peace.
