I worked with Lorayne in Academic Upgrading at Algonquin College during the 1990’s and she was an inspiration. She demonstrated strength of character, compassion for everyone she encountered and a love of science and math which was infectious. I will treasure memories of intense conversations with her as well as much laughter. Au revoir, Lorayne. You made a difference in the world.

Lorayne was one of my greatest role models. I was so incredibly lucky to get to spend my childhood with her, learning how to search for wild leeks, make a good omelette, share an extravagant picnic. She was witty, kind, had an adventurous spirit, and tenacity. One of my favourite voices.
I’m so fortunate to have spent so much of my formative years around her. I’m so grateful, and I will miss her dearly.

Our deepest sympathies to Sydney and his family and Derek and Jen. She will be sorely missed.
As a member of the Kingston Home Business Ass. we spent many hours discussing how to enlarge our business, make them more financially prosperous, but all the time having a good time. Sometimes just sharing a glass of wine or a simple meal together with the friends we had developed.

I am shocked and so sad to hear that Lorayne died. We worked together for a few years. She was such a smart woman and cared fiercely for The teaching and support staff and for those young people in her schools. I just loved meeting her for breakfasts and great chats. So sorry we lost touch these past few years.
It was such an honour to work so closely with her. I am so grateful for her mentorship and partnership on projects. I cheered her on through her PhD. My heartfelt condolences to Sidney and family.

Dear Lorayne,
It's sad to be writing this knowing that we won't meet again, we won't have another opportunity to share a bottle of wine and have a giggle together. We will miss you, but the memories of your smile, your positivity and zest for life will live in our memories forever.
We cherish the memories of the time we spent together, your kindness and love for your family and life.
You will always be an inspiration for us all.
There is a saying that goes "We live forever insofar we stay alive in other's memories" ... well you are not going anywhere Lorayne!
Always in our hearts, the shiniest star in the skies.
Thank you for everything, until we meet again
With all our love
Clara & Andy

Dear Nana Lorayne, we will miss you very much. I am thankful for the time I spent with you, like the time you taught me how to kayak and the time you took us to the zoo. I'm so sad to hear that Lorayne has passed away. Thanks to Gerry Koster for letting me know. I knew Lorayne through the Kingston and Area Home Business Association. She was very committed to the organization, also highly intelligent, warm and funny. I remember fondly her baked salmon with basil, which she would bring to our potluck get-togethers. I admired her for being a math tutor as well as being committed to helping young people get a high school education outside the mainstream educational system. My heartfelt condolences to Sidney.

It is with deep sadness that I learned of Lorayne’s passing. I first met Lorayne when we worked at the Thousand Island Secondary School. I was a secretary in the office and Lorayne was a teacher working to develop and deliver an alternative program for learners. We connected in our shared interest and support for youth who are neuro - divergent or come from challenging life circumstances. Our lives converged many times over the years as my career changed and Lorayne’s efforts and commitment brought new opportunities to youth in our area. Lorayne was a woman who gave opportunities and never took excuses. She was fiercely loyal and would defend her programs, the youth she worked for and her staff while at the same time never protecting people from the consequences of their own behaviours. I was honestly always honoured and enlightened to work with Lorayne through the alternative program and later in Restorative Justice.
She also helped me personally when my son returned to high school to complete his education after taking a few years off. She would always say to me “ if we can just get him through high school he will flourish in University“. Her encouragement of both him and me during that time will never be forgotten. Lorayne was and will continue to be a valued colleague and friend. I still have a magnet on my fridge that she gave me years ago that says it all. “Ever notice that ‘Oh, What the hell’ is always the right decision?”

I and my wife/Christine were truly saddened to learn of Lorayne's sudden passing. She was an extremely bright and dedicated person who was a highly instrumental driving force in the 2018 project to establish a first ever Bass Lake Association. Over these past 4 years she served as a Director and membership Coordinator on our Board of Directors. We will definitely miss her enthusiasm and talents in striving to ensure our lake protection and health. Bill St Jean - President BLPOA

Hi have fond memories of being Lorayne and Sidney’s close neighbours on Bass Lake. Lorayne encouraged me to join the Bass Lake association and so we drove to a few meetings together. One evening in particular we were chatting nonstop and laughing so much that I missed the turn off to our road. Lorayne just laughed and laughed. She approached life with clarity and courage and kept smiling and laughing. I will miss her very much as a neighbour and mentor.
