Obituary of Bob Wrightly
Surrounded by the love of his family and in the arms of his beloved wife, Bob Wrightly of Smiths Falls passed away at the Perth Community Care Centre on April 25, 2023. Bob leaves his wife Norma of 50 years; his son Fred (Tab), his daughter Sarah (Don) and loving second daughter, CJ. Bob was a very proud and special Grandpa and Poppa to his 5 grandsons Owen, Keelan, Carter, Daniel, and Gabe. He will be missed by his only sister, Barbara Sargent (late Art) and his many extended family members.
Bob was a letter carrier in Smiths Falls for over 30 years and was a founding member of the Letter Carriers Union. Bob was a longtime member and supporter of the OYB. He moved to a hobby farm in the ‘80s and farmed Hampshire sheep for several decades. Bob was known for his prize-winning dill pickles and won awards at “Picklefest” and the Lombardy Fair. Bob was a lifelong volunteer. When he retired, he became known as the Pop Can man. He had a wide route which he traveled each week picking up pop cans for the Shriners—although, he was not a Shriner. He called bingo for the Rotary Club—although, he was not a Rotarian. He was active at the Lombardy Agricultural Society, especially at fair time where you could find him selling tickets in support of the LAS—for his efforts he received a volunteer award from the province in 2018.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Graeme Hendry and Dr. James Einarsson and Katie from St. Elizabeth, for their expert care and compassion; also, to the staff at Perth Community Care Centre, 2nd floor.
For those wishing to pay their respects, visitation will take place at Blair & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls (112 Beckwith Street N) on Friday, May 5 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A private interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery. If desired, donations to The Lombardy Agricultural Society or Trinity United Church, Smiths Falls would be greatly appreciated.
