Blair Maurice Bingley
April 6, 1934 – May 20, 2023
Blair passed peacefully on May 20th, 2023 at the Smiths Falls Hospital at the age of 89 years. He was the loved husband of Arlene (Hart) Bingley for 70 years. Cherished father of Francis (Mary Pat), Kevin (Christine), Terry (Nancy), Randy (Sheila) and Mark (Peggy). Beloved grandfather of Megan (Brad), Angela (Phil), Joseph (Cheryl), Bradley (Amanda), Joshua (Meredith), Clark (Kayla) and Lucie. Adored great-grandfather of 7 great-grandchildren: Sophia, Gabriel, Aaron, Alyssa, Wyatt, Walker and Navy. He will be fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law Evelyn, and Carol Anne. Blair was predeceased by his parents Elwin and Lila (McDougall) Bingley; his siblings Arnold (late Effie), Clive (late Doreen), Ronald, Vernon (late Floris), Raymond (late Margaret), Lyall, Brian, Erroll (late Maureen), Myrtle Britton, Doreen Bingley, Elaine (late Austin) Reid and Dianne Bingley. He will be deeply missed by Arlene’s family; Maxine (Ron), Marie (Jack), Robert, Gloria (Gerry) and Joan (Don); as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Blair was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and a former Grand Knight of Smiths Falls. He will be remembered for his service to his community and church. He played baseball almost all his life; he and his 8 brothers, known as the Bingley boys, formed the Lavant team with Blair playing catcher. In their later years the Bingley boys passed their team on to their own children, who continued the family tradition and play together to this day. Blair loved the Toronto Blue Jays and always supported the Toronto Maple Leafs no matter how the play was going. Many a hunt season was spent hunting with his family at Nat’s Hunt Club and with his boys at Wylers Hunt Camp, making memories that will be cherished forever. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home in Smiths Falls (112 Beckwith St, N.) on Monday May 22nd, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday May 23rd, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (17 Elmsley St. N.) with a reception to follow in Hanley Hall.
