Obituary of Evelyn Doreen Knapp

                                                                  Evelyn Doreen Knapp

                                                              May 5, 1925 - June 18, 2023

Evelyn passed away peacefully in Perth, Ontario at the age of 98 years. Beloved wife of John (Jack) Knapp for 70 years. Much loved mother of Wendy Smith, Janet Lundy (Keith) and Lori Knapp (Michael Allen).  She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Jillian Nolan (Brett), Matthew Smith, Jeffrey Smith (Lesley), Scott Lundy (Erica), Thomas Lundy (Angeline Santerre) and Alastair Allen. She was blessed with 4 great-grandchildren, Victoria Nolan, Evan and Amy Smith and Jonathan Lundy. Dear sister of Shirley Stoltz.

Evelyn (Evie) was born and raised in Toronto, the third of six children to Roy and Cora Kemp. Her siblings Audrey Dennett, Gordon Kemp, Bruce Kemp, and Ross Kemp predeceased her. After her high school matriculation and until she married Jack, Evelyn worked as a secretary in downtown Toronto.  She always spoke fondly of her time working and always remained proud of her secretarial skills.  Spending fun and adventurous days out with girlfriends on her days off was also a joyful memory of hers.  Meeting on a badminton court, she and Jack were married in 1953.  She became a devoted doctor’s wife and was active in church, neighbourhood and school life as she raised her three girls. Various summer cottages, from Georgian Bay to Sand Lake to Upper Rideau Lake, were always an important part of Evie’s family life.  After 25 years of married life in Toronto, Evelyn’s life took interesting turns as she and Jack moved first to Ottawa; then Evansville, Indiana; Fort Myers, Florida; finally returning home to her beloved Canada in 2021. She made many new friends and had many new opinions along the way. Evie was spirited, hard working and feisty. Be it a household task, a competitive game, an argument, or life itself, she never gave up. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother who adored children, music, gardening, and baking.

A small celebration of life will be held at Blair & Son Funeral Home in Perth, Ontario on July 6, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.  In remembrance of Evelyn, donations may be sent to:  Westport Blooms, c/o Donna Easter, Box 367, Westport, ON K0G 1X0 or e-transferred to westportinbloom@gmail.com.
