I am so sad to hear the news of My dear friend Lorna's passing. I have loved this lady since the 1960's when we were neighbors. We did not get to see each other much this past year because of our poor health. We had many a good laugh on the phone though. I will miss this dear lady very much. RIP. My sincerest sympathy to her family.

The historic fountain-pen sketch of my acquaintance with Mrs. Lorna Johnson is faint but indelible. My primary connection is through her father, Raymond A. Jamieson, QC in whose former law office at 74 Mill Street, Almonte I began my own career. The last time I spoke with Mrs. Johnson was immediately following the death of her father as we reminisced about his lengthy career spanning 1921 - 1976. Enlargement of the dynamic local personalities included Mrs. Johnson’s beloved spouse, Donald Patterson Johnson who, aside from being a maverick accountant, represented John Hawley Kerry. Mr. Kerry had been taken under the arm of Mr. R. A. Jamieson upon his arrival in Almonte many years ago. Mr. Kerry extended similar favour to me upon my arrival in Almonte. I understand that in the 1960s both John H. Kerry and Mrs. Evelyn Jamieson (Lorna’s mother) were separately named Citizen of the Year for the Town of Almonte. Completing this network of inspiring personalities is my acquaintance with Mrs. Johnson’s brother, John G. Jamieson who has that familiar flair which characterizes the family. Mrs. Johnson’s death has revived these important recollections of which I am honoured to have been a part howsoever fleeting.

I have the fondest memories of Mrs. Johnson first as our neighbour across the street for my childhood who made the most delicious candy apples and then as a mentor as I pursued my dream of becoming a teacher. I had the wonderful opportunity to teach with her as a co-op student and then celebrated graduating from Queen’s as a teacher with her many years ago. I will always remember the wonderful banter between my father and Mrs. Johnson throughout the years. A sweet, kind, strong soul has left this earth but forever will be remembered in my heart.

To the Johnson family.Your mom was one of the sweetest people I knew.
I worked with Lorna. She had so much compassion for her students. She was the best storyteller. I will always remember her story about "The Teeny Tiny Lady."
We shared the same birthday, so we called each other twin. I will miss receiving a special card from her. I also grew up in the neighborhood. It was always a mad dash to get to her house on Halloween for her candy apples. When my kids were old eniugh to go out on there own, she always sent an apple home with them for me.
Your mother was a class act and she will be missed dearly.
Denise (O'Neil) Lambert

Your parents were friends of my parents ( Gordon and Ruth Houston ) and your dad was their best man. I have fond childhood memories of Lorna and Don visiting. When I was visiting my friend Sandy in Almonte a couple of years ago Lorna and her daughter were having lunch beside us in the Tea Room. She recognized us both right away and we had a chat.Your mom was such a lovely woman! I am so happy we got to see her that day. Sincerest condolences to the family from Norma ( Houston) Quinn
