It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Gordon McCallum, age 86 years, on July 7, 2023, peacefully surrounded by his family. Gordon will be forever missed by Anne, his wife and companion of 36 years; three daughters, Lisa Campbell (Ottawa), Janice Wormworth (Sidney, Au); Leslie Wormworth and her husband Adam Kiernicki (Toronto), his grandchildren Jess Campbell and Mark Pappin of Ottawa; their wives Giulianna Ferri and Merrill Pappin; and great-grandchildren Ella and Roman Ferri Campbell. Gordon is survived by his sister Elizabeth Powers of Portland, Oregon; her two daughters and four grandchildren; and his sister-in-law Flo McCallum of Huntsville; Her children Kevin and Karen and four grandchildren. Gordon was born on October 31, 1936, in London, Ontario. He was the second son of Louise (nee Turville) and Claude McCallum.

Gordon was an intellectual who attended schools in London and further education at Queens University B.Sc. (Physics, 1959); Toronto (M.A.); Simon-Fraser (PHD Engineering Physics.) He returned to Queens to obtain his law degree. His career encompassed research in early computers, and later practiced law in Ottawa until he retired. He and Anne moved to Perth in 2008, where he joined other retired professionals in a discussion group. He enjoyed kayaking, hiking and photography. He also enjoyed time with his children and grandchildren at the nearby cottage.

Gordon was a man of absolute intelligence and insatiable curiosity about the world around him and was a dedicated environmentalist. He had a wonderful sense of humour, absolute kindness, and a generosity of spirit which blessed all those in his life.

A celebration of life for close family and friends will be held in the Blair & Son Reception Centre, 15 Gore St. West, Perth on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023 from 2:30 to 4:30 P.M.  In honour of Gordon, memorial contributions to the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Home, Perth.
