Obituary of Audrey Elizabeth Cook

Passed peacefully on September 10, 2023 in her 92nd year. Predeceased by her beloved husband William Leonard Cook, daughter Cathie Bernicky, and by her siblings and their spouses Carl Bolton (Reba), Allan Bolton (Betty), and Marion Clarke (Bud). Audrey leaves behind her loving children Brenda St. Dennis (Steven) and Norman Cook (Patsy); grandchildren Anna (Mike), Robin (Scott), Joseph (Erika), Natalie (Justin), Mallory, and Simon, Jim Bob and Terry.  

Audrey will be lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren Ethan, Garrett, Matteo, Leona, Vivienne and Adeline, and Holly (George) and Kate (Jack). She will be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.

A beloved matriarch, Audrey was the dedicated historian of our family who meticulously researched our genealogy and created an extensive family tree. She had a prolific green thumb and loved to read. Audrey was an exceptional artist—often drawing and painting with her grandchildren on their regular weekend visits—yet her creative ability remained a well-kept secret known only to a few. A talented seamstress, Audrey lovingly handcrafted clothing for her family—even sewing two cherished wedding dresses. Her holiday gatherings were unforgettable, as she opened her heart and home to host the family, and lovingly prepared a heart-warming feast (including incredible homemade pies!)

Most of all, we’ll remember Audrey’s big heart and her warm, calm and happy character. Audrey had a gift for making people feel welcome, whether it was on special occasions or ordinary days. Her warm hospitality and genuine kindness touched the hearts of everybody lucky enough to know her.

Friends and family may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home (112 Beckwith St N) on Friday, September 15,2023 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Funeral service in celebration of Audrey's life will be held in the chapel at 12:30 p.m. with interment following at Hillcrest Cemetery.  All are invited to join for a reception and sharing of memories following the burial at the Blair & Son Reception Centre.  If desired, memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
