Sending condolences. Mrs Blanchard was my teacher at Rideau public school. She was so kind to me as I was a new student and very shy. I Remember her well.
On behalf of The Retired Teachers of Ontario Lanark 29 Branch please accept our sincere condolences. As a teacher Velma touched the lives of so many in our area. In her memory we will be making a donation to the RTO/ERO Foundation. The Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life for seniors.
To All of Velma's Family
So sad to hear of Velma's passing, she was my neighbour and best of friends all my life, she always had a smile on her face and always asked what was new and come in and sit down, she was the best friend anyone could have and will be greatly missed. Fly high Velma and watch over us.
Holly Jordan-Lillie
Thank you Holly. Many years ago when I used to drive with her past your farm she would always say , “That’s where Holly lives” and wave, whether you were in the yard or not.
One of my favourite memories of Velma was watching her read to our children in the Library at Montague Centre. They sat on the floor looking up like they were " drinking water from a cup ". Velma gave all of her students a love for books and readig . One of her students, Ron Ferguson , became Principal of Almonte High School and he is now a Superintendent of Schools for the Upper Canada School Board ..I am sure Ron Fergiuson has fond memories of Velma.
Thank you Ron. Your teaching bond and friendship bond with Velma goes back many, many years. She treasured both. We first met when I practice taught in your classroom in what I preferred to call “Aunt Velma’s School”.
To All The Family
I had the pleasure of enjoying Velma company at Lombard Manor. We had some wonderful visits, a pleasure to be around.
She will be missed, treasure the memories. Hugs Jean McGrath
