Obituary of Donald Henry Bell
Donald Henry Bell
Don passed away peacefully on December 17th, 2023 in his 87th year. He was the much loved husband of Lorraine (nee Batoff) for 66 years and cherished father of Laurie Saul (Brian) of Sudbury, Stephen Bell (Sandi) of Smithers B.C., Lisa Gold (Robin) of Cranbrook B.C., and Luann Vandusen (Tom) of Perth.
Proud popa/grandpa to April (Jake), Donald (Joanna) and George (Maggie) Saul, Lorraine, David and Thomas Gold. He was blessed with four great grandchildren, Kalista and Logan Lightburn and Henry and Charlie Saul.
Don was predeceased by his parents Muriel (nee Greenley) and Stuart Bell. He sadly lost two brothers, Harold at age twelve and David in October 2018, and a loved grandson Stuart Saul in August 2020.
Don will be remembered with affection by his brother Douglas and sisters-in-law Jackie Lord, Donna Bell, and Frances Batoff. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
After completing high school Don worked for Ontario Hydro starting with a travelling crew. Early on he was sent to help move the lines in preparation for the St. Lawrence Seaway and later spent several years teaching the lines trade in Orangeville. Don was willing to go anywhere that Hydro needed him. He worked in Perth as a lineman and eventually became the Area Lines Foreman. After 36 years he retired. His interests and hobbies kept him busy for many years.
Don experienced many health challenges in later years but always maintained a positive, optimistic attitude.
Many thanks to the wonderful nurses and P.S.W.s who looked after Don. He loved you all.
A private interment and gathering will be held at a later date.
Donations to the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation in memory of Don would be appreciated. Arrangements are in the care of Blair & Son Funeral Directors, Perth.
