Obituary of John Franklin Harvey

Harvey, John Franklin

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, papa, brother and friend, John Harvey who passed away peacefully in the Perth Hospital on December 20th, 2023, at the age of 79. Predeceased by his parents, Morton and Mary Harvey, twin sister Catherine, sister Mary, and brother Daniel. He was a dear brother to Dorothy Beesley, Alice Harvey, David Harvey, Patricia Nolon, Denise Wilson and brother-in-law and friend to the late Tommy Wilson.

He is survived by his loving children Trevor (Stephanie), Lorry (Bonnie), Lisa (Ken), and their mother Arlene. He was the proud Papa to Ryan, Brooke, Devin, Stephen, Sarah, Cassie, Brittany and Colton and Great Papa to Kinsley and Gracelyn.

John was born in Sussex, Shoreham by the Sea, England as a son of a wartime bride and a Canadian soldier. Coming from humble beginnings, John never expected anything to be handed to him. He knew that the only way to get ahead was through honest hard work and determination and he instilled these traits in his children. He was a handyman and a MacGyver of sorts who spent most of his years working in the carpentry field. He also enjoyed tinkering on old cars and “fixing things” and taught his sons to do the same. John loved knowing about people in his community, who they were, and where they came from (a genealogist of sorts)

He was a generous man who loved children and spent his retirement years babysitting for his grandchildren. What happened with Papa stayed with Papa!!! He loved dogs, storytelling, and old country music and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends will gather at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St W., Perth on Friday December 29th, 2023 at 10:30 AM for a service to honour his life to be held in the Chapel.  Interment will take place in Pinehurst Cemetery, Playfairville.  Those wishing are asked to make memorial donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or L.A.W.S. (Lanark Animal Welfare Society).   The Harvey Family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Perth hospital for their care and support through this difficult time.
