To Margaret and other members of Fred's large and loving family. I was sorry to learn of Fred's passing recently. It was moving to Larrimac some fifty years ago that brought me into contact with Fred. I seem to recall that we shared an interest in local politics and as he was also a businessman, we shared a common viewpoint about profligate spending. I will remember him as one of nature's gentlemen. I have forwarded under separate cover a modest token of esteem to the Nature Conservancy of Canada..

At this sad time, my thoughts are with all the Grodde family members near and far. The conversations I had with 'Uncle Fred' over the year's were always so very interesting. Even as a 'niece-in-law', he always made me feel welcome when I visited him with my husband Michael and when we saw one another at numerous family reunions. Uncle Fred and Michael developed a close bond over the years. Their mutual love of the great outdoors brought many great discussions over a glass or two of 'red'. Rest in peace 'Uncle Fred'.

It is with profound sadness that l learned about the demise of Fred.
I may never find words beautiful enough to describe you but your cheerful smile lit up my visits and I looked forward to seeing your jolly face on daily basis.
Always had something to say and l was eager to learn a thing or two from you hence the saying Old is Gold.
Our summer walks, the National Geographical tv program we enjoyed on some afternoons, silly jokes, endless stories to mention but a few are some of the moments l shall forever cherish.
You made everything seem so easy. It was a pleasure getting to meet, hang out and know you.
You fought a good fight. Dear Fred, till we meet again. May the good Lord receive you with mercy.

Hester and Family: I was sorry to hear of Fred's passing. I met your father years ago when I was working for OMNR or the County, it might have had to do with the ice storm(it was a long time ago,) anyhow, I met him at a property owned by The Grouse Society and we were looking over some ice storm damage I believe. We had to go in by snow shoes, Fred was probably about my age now(65) and I had a hard time catching up to him on those snow shoes, I thought to myself, I hope I can go like that when I'm his age but that is highly unlikely!
Sincere Condolences,
Doug Heffernan

Dear Paul, Margaret and Hester and families. I am really sad to hear about Uncle Fred's passing. I will always remember how Uncle Fred took a keen interest in what was going on in our lives even though I didn't see him that often. Under the picture below of Uncle Fred in from of the car, granny wrote "the last guest has arrived" Love to you all. Ellie

Heartfelt condolences to Paul, Margaret & Hester on the passing of your father. Thoughts are with Margaret LaFrance as she has lost a long time friend. I met Fred through Margaret, as Fred was needing some care with household chores and errands. Fred always spoke of his family and the many trips that they had enjoyed!
Fred spoke of his younger years of University and a few country's he visited. When Fred returned home he purchased the family painting business from his father. Fred became a very successful entrepreneur with his business. Fred had a very keen eye for colour! Years later Fred decided to sell and retire!
Fred was an outdoors man loved nature walking or hiking trails kept very active until the last few years.
Fred enjoyed life to the fullest, while he could.
Fred you are at peace now, with your wife Constance.
Paul, Margaret & Hester it was an honor to be of assistance for your father the last year.
Fred will be dearly missed.

It is with great sadness that we learned the passing of Fred. He indeed was a kind soul who enjoyed the outdoors and nature. When Fred was working at his painting business he developed many friends and contacts in the Gatineau Hills and the Ottawa area.
As I recall it was one of my very first summer jobs and I lived with the Grodde family in their home surrounded by nature and trees in the Gatineau. At that time, Constance was alive and she made certain that Hester, Margaret and Paul all received their helpings of yogurt mixed with granola each morning.
Fred was quite the entrepreneur. He owned his own painting business. Constance and I would take care of the home and the children while Fred was at work.
I also recall each child's bedroom was equipped with a sink.
Summers were filled with activities and we enjoyed the family cottage which was along the Gatineau River. The children enjoyed swimming and being outdoors.
My sincerest sympathies to Hester, Margaret and Paul

Dear Paul, Margaret and Hester. My condolences on the loss of your father. I always looked forward to seeing Uncle Fred at family gatherings and hearing about his adventures traveling or misadventures at his home near Merrickville (growing grapes for the deer!). I especially enjoyed visiting him at his lake house with my mother a few years ago. He was in his element that day and he and my mother shared some memories from their childhood. I was glad to see that the playful sibling banter was still going strong. It seems to me he lived a full and rich life due in no small part to the three of you and his many grand kids. Take care.

My condolences to the family of Mr Grodde, and his dear friend Margaret LaFrance, whom he was so fond of. I came to know Fred through Community Home Support and spent many wonderful evenings with Fred listening to his many stories of his family, especially his love for Constance, how they met and their many excursions tracking through the countryside. Fred was quick witted and a wealth of knowledge. I am so sorry his time has come. He was a pleasant person and a pleasure to know.
