Obituary of William Meredith McKay

McKay, William “Bill”

Passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his sister at the Smiths Falls Hospital on Monday, January 8, 2024 at the age of 84.  Predeceased by his parents Clare and Mona (nee Boles) McKay.  He will be sadly missed by his sister Elaine (Bart) Drew.  Beloved uncle and friend “UB” to Marsha Drew (Stacey Niceliu), Donna (Stephen) Doyle and Debra Drew (Michael Collins). He was a proud great-uncle “GUB” to Drew Doyle (Alex Colasante), Emily Doyle, Matt Niceliu and Ryann Collins. He was born and raised in Smiths Falls and at the age of 18 he moved to Ottawa, where he became a proud employee of the National Research Council.  He was a beloved hockey and sports fan cheering on the Ottawa Senators (mostly).  During his working career and in retirement, Bill enjoyed travelling throughout Canada.  He was known to have a quick wit and making those around him laugh, while enjoying time with his beloved family. Bill’s family would like thank his PSW Haley Burtch and Bayshore Home Support, as well as his building manager Wayne Johnson, as they took exceptional care of him in his later years. During his last days, his family would also like to thank the staff at the Smiths Falls Hospital for their care and compassion.  The family are holding a private family service at Blair & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Falls with interment taking place at Hillcrest Cemetery.  If desired, memorial contributions may be made to CHEO.
