Obituary of Alexander Joseph Yanosik
Alexander Joseph Yanosik Jr
December 22nd, 1937 to January 22, 2024
We are saddened to announce the passing of Alex Yanosik on January 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Alex was the devoted husband of Patricia (née Deegan) and beloved father of Brian (Janet Van Meer), Cathy (John Lynch), Rob and Karen (Chris Burns). Adored grandfather of Conor Lynch, Justin Yanosik, Liam Lynch, Patrick Yanosik and Emily Burns. Step-grandfather of Jared Burns (Rachel) and Nicholas Burns (Melissa).
Alex was born in Smiths Falls, ON, the first child of Alex Sr. And Gladys (née Kilby), older brother of Ann (Jim Power) and Joan (Bob Palmer).
Alex eventually convinced his future father-in-law, Donald Deegan, that he was an appropriate match for Don and Orma’s eldest of six children. Alex then became part of the large Deegan clan and brother-in -law to the late Paul (Carol), the late Dennis (Sharon), Cathy Giff (Gordon Giff), Donald Jr. (Shelley) and Jamie (Susan). Alex is fondly remembered by many former in-laws, nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews among the Yanosik and Deegan extended family. Some of the best family memories include impromptu Sunday dinners at either Gladys and Alex’s or Don and Orma’s- everyone always welcome.
Alex showed his precocious intellect early, translating English to Slovak for his immigrant grandparents, then, graduating from high school at age 16. He began work at the Smiths Falls branch of the Bank of Nova Scotia, eventually becoming a chartered accountant and partner of Johnson Cross Yanosik and Scott.
Alex was an avid hockey fan, spending many years as a minor hockey coach and treasurer of the Smiths Falls minor hockey association. Like many in the region, his loyalties moved from cheering on the Habs to the Sens over the years.
Alex lived for many years with health challenges. His family is grateful for what they consider « the bonus years » after a life-threatening illness in his late 40s. He was grateful for the constant loving companionship and care by his « sweetie » Patsy.
Alex and Patsy appreciated their lifelong friends on Lavinia Street and the recent care received by Alex, briefly at Van Horne Retirement Home, and both Hilltop and Broadview Nursing Homes.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 112 Beckwith St. N., Smiths Falls, on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis de Sales Church, Smiths Falls on Saturday, January 27th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in Hanley Hall.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Society or the MRI campaign at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation.
