I am in shock and deep sadness to hear of Mr. Irvine's passing. I dealt with Mr. Irvine every year at my office job and looked forward to seeing him. He was always very polite and never would call me by my first name. It was always Mrs. Salmon. He was always worried about Judy and how she was doing. A very loving husband and father. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time. May you have some comfort in knowing he was a good man, polite and respectful. Many qualities that are hard to come by these days. Janet Salmon

It is a sad day when the world loses a person that affected so many lives like Mr Irvine has. As a young boy joining the military I was truly blessed to have Mr Irvine be the example of what a great man, one could become. He is a major reason I am the man I became. He is always in my thoughts and memories.

I met the RSM on my first deployment to Cyprus with 2 RCR when I was a very young and Naive reservist. SIx months later I wanted to be a soldier like him. He influenced an generation of Canada's soldiers that strived to be REG. God bless you sir .

Condolences to Judy and family from all members of the Edmonton Branch of the PPCLI Association. Many of us worked with and for the RSM in our career. I myself had the pleasure of having him as my Standards in the Infantry School, and then my RSM of same School. Myself being a HABs fan and him a Leaf we always had a little rivalry. One night in Fredericton at Hockey Game his Jr Leafs we’re playing my Jr HABs. He was dicked out head to toe in Leafs gear. I walk up to him and ask him if he lost a bit. The gave me tongue lashing then said go set down. He was an example for all to and I took all his guidance to heart . At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember him! May he Rest in Peace PRO PATRIA / VP

Mr Irvine was the Regimental Sergeant Major of 2 RCR when I was a Jr NCO. Went to Oka and Cyprus and later ran into him when I was on my Officer Training. He was rough and gruff but had a heart of gold and he offered some very wise advice to me on many occasions.
RIP Mr Irvine.
Eternal Rest Grant unto him, O Lord and may Perpetual Light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

Forty two years ago he walked into a classroom at CFB PET and gave an intro speech to our newbie group beginning our TQ3 course. It's safe to say, those next terrifying 30 minutes or so, are still vividly etched into the memories of everyone of us in that room.
It was then on to CFB GageT where he became our CSM in J-Coy. He commanded and earned our deepest respect. Tough, but fair. Set the gold standard. He will always be SIR to me.
Thoughts and condolences.

Growing up I had heard many stories about Reg from my father (Wayne Garnett), some entertaining of course. I finally got to meet him one night in Petawawa where we ended up sharing a cab, small world, and reminisced about him and my father. He showed his caring side by reaching out to my mother often (Kathy) after my dad passed away. Great person. RiP! Pro Patria!

In 1985 I was a shiny new Private in the 2nd Royal Canadian Regiment CFB Gagetown NB. Reginald Irvine was my Sgt Major in jogging “J” company. He was a legend then, a soldiers soldier. He became a tremendous, positive force in my life. He played a part in the man I became. After my 3 year commitment to the Armed Forces, I went on to serve 30 years as a police officer retiring from the OPP. I am very fortunate to know his brother inlaw Brian Curley. I’m glad he was able to pass on some of my Reg stories to the legend before he passed on.
He was a great, influential leader.
Pro Patria, Rest Peacefully, you earned it!
