Hello everyone, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Jessica, or "Jessie" as my grandma called me. I am Elinor's second oldest grandchild.
My Grandpa asked if we would like to share some memories of Grandma so I thought I would share a few with you today.
My grandma was always someone who didn't sit down. She always sat at the end of the table so she could scoot out and grab whatever dessert she had prepared - my favourite was always the banana cake. When she was living in Scarborough she always brought back Dad's cookies in a white paper bag, either the oatmeal ones or the oatmeal dipped in icing. She had special knitted slippers for Jenna and I in her Scarborough home when we visited with little pom poms on them, and always picked up fun second-hand toys for us. A few memorable ones were the Barney car and the Girl Talk game.
She was known for being athletic- cross country skiing and skating, and let's not forget her precision for hitting water snakes with rocks. She loved the colour teal and hummingbirds, and always had her feeder out each year.
She could often be found walking around with a "wee drinky boo" in her green coffee mug here at the cottage. And always wore her keds until her toes were sticking out of them - which was a prime example of how she was always concerned about putting others' before herself. She never believed in waste and would remind us when food was, in her words, "hanging fire".
As a little girl, I still remember not being able to fall asleep, so she brought me to the kitchen for some cookies and milk.
And in the summer when Jenna, Ben, and I would swim across the lake we were always sure to ask Grandpa instead of Grandma because we knew it would be a no otherwise. She was always a worrier.
We would make mud pies in the sandbox and she would pretend to eat them. And she always had a way of making you feel special.
She was a wonderful woman and a great grandma and she will be missed. I love you and am honored to have your name as my middle name. I will cherish it forever. Rest in paradise.
Love,
Jessie
