So sorry to hear of Doug‘s passing, my condolences and sympathies to the family. Doug did an addition to my house, a kitchen I had dreamed of for years. His workmanship and sense of humour was what made the whole experience enjoyable.
I looked back and still chuckle at some of his quips and comments. Truly a character and really good person

To Margo and family, we are saddened with passing of Doug. Our mothers were sisters, so we got together for family reunions when young. Being eleven years older, like most kids I felt I was way TOO grown up for Doug . He was way TOO young for me.We both moved on in life. 13 Years ago our Valcartier cousins organized a cousin's renewal. Since that time I rediscovered our families. Especially the last year, thru his sisters Carol and Linda, I learnt so much about Doug, who he was, what he meant to so many people, as a husband, father, brother and friend. I am proud to have been his lost cousin.
Margo and children, I wish to have the good fortune to meet you some day.
Brian & Jacqueline Bedard

Margo, Jason, Kris, the Loughren family, and the Halpin family. I want to offer my heartfelt condolences over the loss of Doug. Doug was loved by all who knew him; he had a heart of gold and he never knew the meaning of "no". He was always there when you asked for his help. How many times did Doug offer his time and expertise to the Smiths Falls community? The answer; far too many to mention. He was a great friend to the Emms family and he contributed to a host of "projects" at 40 R5. Perhaps his most memorable was the renovation on Hap's bathroom. (LOL) I will forever cherish the countless number of Fridays spent at the "shop", where a host of Doug's friends would try to solve the world's problems. He loved his Montreal Canadiens; he might have been the team's #1 fan. The world is less fortunate with Doug's passing. I feel honoured to have known Doug for more than 30 years. Doug; you will be missed.

To Margo, Jason and Chris and your extended families, was sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. While I have known Margo all my life, I only met Doug more recently at the Cancer Centre. Margo introduced me to Doug and after that we would run into each other frequently while waiting for treatment. It was apparent to me Doug was fighting hard to overcome his cancer. Was sorry to hear things took such a turn. Please know I am truly sorry to see this news and know I am thinking of you all. Keep your memories close to help you in the days and weeks ahead. Doug " Dougie " Loughren ; Adored his family ( as well as " Les Canadiens " ); loved serving his community & helping others and
always saw the best in everyone he met; highly underrated himself as a master carpenter, contractor and builder but well known
and respected for his " athletic prowess " on the BLUE LINE in arenas across Eastern Ontario; never heard him say no to a request for help or assistance no matter when or where. " Salt of the Earth " human being and a loyal friend.
Condolences to Margo and the entire Loughren and Halpin Families.

To all who loved him, I know that he will be missed! Dougie was an amazing person and a very hands on Dad! I can remember when the boys would come down during the summer to attend the Village Playground, they always found a way to include Dougie in their summer fun! While living in the Village he was an active Community Member and helped organize or be part of many community activities. He was a great softball coach and I will always remember his shopping bag glove, how can anyone miss a ball with that! Always remember that he will remain tucked safely in your hearts and with time the memories will become treasured moments of love, laughter and good times. My sympathies to Margo, Chris, Jason, Linda, Carol and all of his adored nieces and nephews . Sending you all strength and hugs, Pam xox
