To John's family, what a wonderful man, full of kindness, generosity and caring for others. Such an amazing community builder, dedicated to making Perth a better place. His curious nature, consistent gifting of homemade muffins and delightful poems was truly uplifting for everyone who had the pleasure of spending time with him. I'm so sorry to learn of John's passing. John and my dad, Dennis Dwyer, went to primary school together in Westmount and happily reconnected in Perth in their later years. In the past few years after Mum passed away, John's help and kindness toward my dad and our family was immeasurable. He would stop by Dad's residence with newspapers, supplies and of course muffins, poems and apple sauce (seasonal!), all of which were deeply appreciated. John's friendship truly made a difference to Dad's happiness and our (his children's) level of comfort in his last few years. He was a kind and generous man with a true zest for life. Please accept our sincere sympathies on his passing - he will be missed.

Thea, Vicky and John, I am so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. I first met him when he taught at PDCI and introduced me to accounting. He was always supportive and willing to share his knowledge during tax season. He will be missed by so many of us. Lanark District Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTOERO) extends condolences. In memory of John's role as an educator we will be making a donation in his name to the RTOERO Foundation. The Foundation seeks to improve the quality of life for seniors. At our annual meeting each year we have a memorial tribute to our members who pass away. We will honour him on behalf of all the colleagues and students whose lives he enriched.

John was my neighbour, cycling/Xcountry ski buddy, and wonderful friend. He never tired of reinventing himself. Whether it was learning to cook for a dinner party (in his 70’s) or become the “muffin man” during Covid (dropping off his muffins along with his original poetry at friends’ doors), activity and relationships to others was the core to his being. He radiated kindness, and energy, even in those last weeks when all his normal activities must have been such a struggle. One of my last visits ended with John scrambling down into the basement looking for materials to stain a new railing. He has been a great friend and an exemplary citizen of our community. He will be missed.

My sincere condolences to John’s family. He made a lasting impression on me as my math teacher back in the early seventies. He was very kind and patient and he took the time to teach me until I understood. I will always remember him as my favourite teacher of all time.
