Edith Kathleen (Kath) Allan
Peacefully at St. Lawrence Lodge in Brockville after complications from a stroke on June 11, 2024 in her 94th year. Predeceased by husband Howard on February 27, 2023. Born January 5, 1930 in Paddington, London, England to Edith Casentieri Gilbert and Albert Richard Gaunt. Endured the Blitz and Catholic nuns as a child with her brothers and sisters, all of whom came to Canada after the war. Kath initially emigrated in 1952 and briefly resided with her sister Rose in Smiths Falls before returning to England to care for her younger sister. She later went to Toronto with her brothers, taking work at the Bank of Commerce and met Howard, whom she married in 1958. Leaving the bank to raise her family, she made houses into homes in Willowdale, Oakville, Arthur Township and Fergus. Relocated to Smiths Falls where she enjoyed her garden, her library, British television programmes and many trips to Baltimore and across North America as well as England and Scotland with Howard. Her final years were slowly taken by dementia and other ailments, but she was a dear favourite among the staff at St. Lawrence Lodge, and was never known to turn down a nice cup of tea. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no service, but scattering of her ashes will be carried out in Nova Scotia and London. Survived by sons Steven (Geri) of York, Pa., John (Alphonso) of Toronto and granddaughter Annie of Baltimore, Md.
